Job Description
Sony Pictures Entertainment is seeking an experienced Real-time VFX Supervisor. with the skills to create spectacular real-time VFX and FX. The ideal candidate has experience working within the constraints of real-time engines, shows attention to detail, and can take both artistic and technical direction to achieve the most appropriate solution. A level of technical knowledge combined with strong creative and visual instincts is critical for this position.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Work directly in engine to create and optimize stunning FX and VFX.
• Collaborate with the team to create high quality effects like fire, smoke, explosions, fluid simulations, etc.
• Integrate original and shared VFX elements to a final pixel level of quality for delivery.
• Create libraries of FX and elements to ensure efficient pipeline development.
• Consider lighting and other integration techniques to the overall scene design.
• Use Unreal Engine as well as proprietary tools and adjacent software programs to create VFX/FX assets and elements to a final pixel quality.
• Assists in R&D efforts for tools enhancements and prototyping of innovative technology.
• Along with the Creative Director, supervise final deliveries of all final shots.
• Provide department and production leads with responsible estimates for FX tasks and identify any risks to the effort
• Contribute to the design and streamlining of VFX tools and development processes.
Requirements
• 5+ years' experience working with in-engine effects
• High Proficiency with 3D graphics, particle systems, physics, and shaders
• Expert level proficiency in Houdini and Nuke
• Understanding of VFX asset costs and impact on performance
• Solid grasp of the principals of animation and lighting
• High understanding of real-time physics and fluid simulations
• Optimize content through profiling and enhancing performance with the help of diagnostic tools
• Scripting & programming skills with Python, C#, JavaScript, and C++ a plus
• Good mathematical skills to solve mathematical problems that arise when working in-engine
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, iterative development environment
• Knowledge of virtual production integration for film and television a plus
The anticipated base salary for this position is $225,000 to $240,000. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
