Job Description
Rolling Stone is hiring a full-time Commerce Writer to support its growing affiliate business at RollingStone.com. The incoming Commerce Writer will work closely with our Commerce Writers, Senior Commerce Editor and VP of Commerce to execute against a performance-driven editorial strategy supported by weekly content output and updates to historically performing articles on search and social. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering a consistent commerce content pipeline including but not limited to shoppable listicles, deal posts and product reviews. Content categories may include - music (events and tangible products), streaming, entertainment, tech & electronics, fashion, beauty, health, parenting and fitness.
The ideal candidate will have experience producing high-performance e-commerce content as well as a demonstrated interest in several of the above product categories. This role is best filled by a writer who is interested in topical cultural events, trends and is also product-knowledgeable. Experience with affiliate networks, related tools, SEO content strategies and content data analysis is required.
The incoming Commerce Writer will have an expansive list of ideas for content pitches - including product reviews and roundups that are a perfect fit for the RollingStone.com audience. This person must also have the ability to create eye-catching headlines and copy that embody general SEO best practices.
Responsibilities:
• Producing 10+ e-commerce stories a week on RollingStone.com optimized for search performance and relevant keywords
• Staying abreast of product and retailer trends and crafting pitches that align with buyer intent
• Reviewing search trends for specific keywords and/or relevant product search terms to prioritize content lists and optimize output towards the largest possible converting audience
• Continuously producing ideas and opportunities to expand upon Rolling Stone's existing commerce content expertise and helping Senior Commerce Editor and supporting Writers identify new niches that the business may competitive test and perform within
• Monitor sales and content performance and ensure notable points are included within weekly e-commerce revenue recaps to the total team
• Work closely with the editorial team leads to ensure SEO and editorial best practices are met for all content produc
Qualifications:
• 3+ years of professional experience in e-commerce journalism preferred. Consideration will be provided to candidates with experience in retail merchandising, retail communications/PR, commerce/retail copy editing and/or search optimized journalism
• A proven track record of executing data-forward performance strategies with proven results
• The ability to work independently, be extremely detail oriented and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
• Daily experience working within publisher CMS systems (familiarity with WordPress, preferred)
• Having successful and current relationships with key market PR teams a plus
• Experience with affiliate marketing/affiliate networks a plus
• Proficiency with Photoshop or other image editing software a plus
Typical wage range: $72,000 - $82,000
Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range. The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits.
