Job Description
Rocksteady Studios is an award-winning, critically acclaimed video game developer. Founded in 2004, we are home to the widely celebrated Batman: Arkham series of games. Our philosophy for game development is all about treating people well to create quality entertainment that stands the test of time. We're a one-project studio that built our success by combining genre-defining gameplay and character-driven cinematic narrative with AAA production values. Born in the heart of London, our multicultural team takes inspiration from the culture and history of our home in one of the most diverse cities in the world.
Rocksteady's writing team has an opening for a Junior Scriptwriter to help us shape the future of our upcoming title Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League-and our team!
We're looking for a fresh, new voice who'll work closely with our internal and external writers, Creative Director, Design and Audio teams. You'll write big, bold, memorable dialogue for a diverse cast of exciting characters. You'll be learning and contributing in a fast-paced game development environment, all with the support of a highly collaborative team.
Please send examples of your work or a link to your portfolio within your CV. As part of the process we'll ask initially successful applicants to take a short, 2-page writing test.
Covid-19 Hiring Update: We've transitioned to a work-from-home model and we're continuing to interview and hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position, and once it's safe to return to the office can either be completed from our London HQ, fully remotely or some combination of the two.
Responsibilities
• Write compelling dialogue and text across a diverse range of character voices.
• Fulfil requests from other departments for new or evolving story elements.
• Learn and use development tools to implement, test and tune your work.
• Contribute to writers' rooms, workshopping sessions and peer review.
• Playtest the game and provide feedback on dialogue and narrative.
Requirements
• A broad knowledge of storytelling in and beyond games, such as comics, novels, films and fan fiction.
• Willing to research and further develop your knowledge in these areas.
• Comfortable with giving and receiving constructive feedback in a small team.
• Able to work independently and manage multiple tasks-- but more importantly, to know when to ask for help.
Bonus Points
• Familiarity with current techniques for storytelling in video games.
• Previous professional experience writing in a creative field is an advantage, but not required.
