Senior Backend Programmer
Sony Bend Studio, renowned creator of Days Gone, Uncharted: Golden Abyss, and Syphon Filter, is seeking outstanding talent to join our passionate and creative family in crafting our next high-profile AAA console title.
We are seeking a Senior Backend Programmer to contribute to our development process on a AAA game. The successful candidate will play a significant part in designing, developing, deploying and maintaining the backend systems for our AAA games. This role demands deep technical expertise, adaptability, and a dedication to deliver reliable and scalable backend infrastructure in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
• Design, build, and maintain highly scalable, reliable, and secure backend systems for our games.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to guide the delivery of quality backend systems throughout the development lifecycle.
• Replicate, identify, and resolve backend issues observed during testing and in live environments.
• Actively participate in code reviews, promote best practices, and ensure high software quality standards.
• Define, measure and improve system performance and stability.
• Mentor junior backend engineers and share knowledge across the team.
• Stay current with the latest backend technology, trends, and programming tools.
Requirements:
• B.S. in computer science, engineering or relevant curriculum/experience.
• Minimum of five years' experience in backend systems engineering, preferably for video games.
• Proficiency in using server-side languages such as Go, Java, Python, or C#.
• Deep understanding of database technologies (SQL or NoSQL) and data modeling techniques.
• Significant knowledge of cloud computing platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) along with container technologies like Docker, Kubernetes.
• Excellent understanding of scalable microservices architecture.
• Strong analytic and problem-solving skills; a proven eye for detail tempered by pragmatic, iterative approach to solving complex problems.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies with a strong orientation for data-driven decision making.
• Proactively identifies and addresses issues within the backend services throughout the entire stack.
Bonus Qualifications:
• DevOps experience:
• Experience with integration, deployment, and delivery systems.
• Experience implementing robust monitoring and alerting solutions for operational support and issue detection like Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Cloudwatch, etc.
• Experience in root cause analysis and recovery of critical incidents, providing solutions to prevent future occurrences.
• Experience developing and maintaining infrastructure for platform services including databases, servers, and networks.
• Experience designing and implementing CICD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, ArgoCD, FluxCD, AWS Code Build, etc.
• Comfortable managing virtual infrastructure in the form of Helm templates, AWS Cloudformation, or Terraform.
• Frontend development experience in Web Development, Winforms, WPF, UWP, etc.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role's base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.
Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.
$124,800 - $187,200 USD
