Business Analyst, Data Governance & Literacy

The Data Governance & Literacy team in Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is set up to drive responsible and effective use of data, thereby enabling a data-driven culture to harness the most value from our data. This is accomplished by governing data as a valuable enterprise asset (responsible) and continuously elevating the organization's level of data literacy (effective).
What We're Currently Looking For
This position will be based in either our HQ in San Mateo, CA, or San Diego, CA. We are seeking Business Analyst to help build our end-to-end adoption & usage strategy for enterprise data catalog Alation. We are building a best-in-class data culture by empowering data citizens across our diverse data landscape. You will be responsible for identifying data challenges faced by users, translating challenges into actionable user stories, and driving the development of effective solutions. By delivering customer-centric analyses and data-driven recommendations, you will turn qualitative and quantitative research into concrete insights. Your critical role will drive engagement strategies, ensuring we continue to build a vibrant community where members actively contribute, share knowledge, and find the data they need efficiently.
This role will require components of analytics, strategy, user outreach, and program management. This is a tremendous opportunity to help craft, implement, and drive the maturity of the data discovery as a core capability that will transform how SIE delivers value for our business through its capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
• Refine and drive a comprehensive user engagement strategy to empower users in overcoming data discovery challenges and to ensure an optimized discovery experience
• Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis to understand user behavior and identify reasons for churn. Deliver a gamification framework to cultivate a collaborative data culture and generate passion for sharing knowledge
• Develop a knowledge curation framework to address the knowledge gaps in the SIE knowledge landscape and facilitate data discovery and comprehension.
• Stay up to date with new catalog features and translate vision into actionable plans, aligning initiatives with overall business and team objectives
• Maintain and update return on investment model used to measure user efficiencies
• Create and present significant data on engagement, usage, and business value derived from the catalog. These metrics will directly contribute to the catalog's maturity through our communication of data-driven insights and recommendations
• Be a thought partner and strategic advisor to customers and program leadership across product management, and engineering. Drive consensus and support from key partners, and ensure engagement insights are being interpreted and accurately actioned on.
What we are looking for:
• Proficiency with SQL, user path analytics tools (e.g., Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, or equivalent), and experience with visualization tools such as Tableau and Domo
• Demonstrates sharp decision-making ability, applying both analytical techniques and intuition, with a dedication to continuous learning and growth. This includes a steadfast pursuit of knowledge and refinement of methods to ensure decisions are advised and effective.
• Proven track record of developing innovative, user-centric solutions by finding opportunities for simplification and process improvement. Exhibits curiosity and a drive to exceed expectations, consistently pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft and deliver compelling, succinct narratives tailored to senior business audiences
• Demonstrated experience with using data to assess state of maturity and continue to set goals for future roadmaps, you take a proactive, consultative approach, building trust consistently and quickly
• Experience collaborating with multi-functional teams, with a focus on implementing plans that drive impactful outcomes under mentorship from senior team members
• A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience with above skills in analytics, strategy and program management - a bachelor's degree is required, masters will be preferred
