The Virtual Art Department (VAD) is the bridge between a traditional Art Department to the Virtual Production (VP) and Visual Effects (VFX).
Pixomondo is currently looking for a VAD Generalist with experience in Digital Matte Painting. A DMP artist in the Virtual Art Department is responsible for crafting detailed photorealistic digital backgrounds and environments that seamlessly integrate with 3D models and live-action footage. The ideal candidate will utilize 2D and 3D techniques to design immersive vistas, set extensions, architectural elements, and atmospheric effects, enhancing the visual storytelling. This role will collaborate closely with the Art Director and VAD Supervisor to ensure that their artwork aligns with the project's artistic vision and technical requirements, ultimately enriching the experience and support the overall narrative of the final production.
Responsibilities
• Creating 2D elements in Photoshop with excellent knowledge of perspective, colours/values, scale and atmosphere.
• Setting up 2D projections for DMP elements on geometry inside Unreal
• Potentially help with rapid prototyping of designs using 2D/3D techniques
• Creating 3D Real Time Assets (model/texture) and Previs geometry
• Teaming up with VAD Concept Artist and working together to tackle creative development, preparing renders passes to do overpaints
• Communicate with VAD Supervisor to follow on specific artistic and technical direction
• Work to meet defined milestones and deadlines
Requirements:
• 3 + years of experience and knowledge of matte painting techniques including color space and digital paint techniques
• A strong traditional/digital art foundation with an emphasis on photo-realism
• Being able to follow a specific style/look and achieve a more stylized finish is a plus
• A desire to learn and ability to quickly pickup new software
• Demonstration and proven ability in one or more 2D/3D techniques, including : Modeling / Texturing / Shading / Lighting / Look Dev / Matte Painting / Concept Art / Design / Procedural Environment Creation
• Proven knowledge in all of the following software packages :
• Photoshop
• Maya
• Unreal Engine
• Nuke
• Zbrush
• Substance Painter
• Strong teamwork and excellent communication
• VFX or game design experience is a huge plus
