Job Description
The Phillies are seeking an innovative Creative Director to lead the organization's creative efforts and elevate our brand. This role requires not only exceptional creative acumen but also a strong commitment to extensive collaboration across various departments and verticals. This role will oversee all aspects of graphic design, ensuring a cohesive and impactful visual identity across all platforms. The Creative Director will also play a strategic role in influencing other areas, including video production, motion graphics, and overall brand storytelling. A key function of this position is to enhance the Phillies' visual presence and engagement - both locally and nationally - through compelling, best-in-class creative work.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Vision & Brand Stewardship
• Define and drive the overall graphic design vision, ensuring it aligns with the organization's brand identity, mission, and strategic objectives.
• Act as a steward of the brand, developing and maintaining a comprehensive visual style guide to ensure consistency across all visual assets.
• Identify opportunities to push creative boundaries and introduce fresh, innovative ideas that resonate with Phillies fans and stakeholders.
Creative Leadership & Execution
• Lead the design and execution of all visual assets, including ballpark signage (both internal and external), video and LED board displays, digital and static graphics, advertisements, and other forms of creative content.
• Serve as an influence for other creative projects, providing feedback on design concepts, campaigns, and deliverables.
• Offer strategic input on video production and motion graphics, collaborating with producers to enhance brand storytelling through impactful visuals that maintain brand consistency.
• Guide the creative direction for photoshoots for campaigns, social media, in-game content, and promotional materials.
• Work closely with team photographers to ensure all photography aligns with the team's graphic design and branding strategy.
• Collaborate with internal departments to conceptualize and deliver visually impactful campaigns.
Team Leadership & Development
• Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of graphic designers, fostering an environment of creativity, collaboration, and professional growth.
• Identify skills gaps within design team and implement training or hiring initiatives to strengthen the creative function.
Project Management & Operations
• Translate business objectives into compelling creative campaigns that resonate with target audiences.
• Manage timelines, workflows, and resources to ensure graphic design projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
• Build and maintain relationships with external vendors, agencies, and freelance designers as needed.
• Stay informed of current design trends, technologies, and best practices, particularly in the sports and entertainment industries, to keep the Phillies' brand visually innovative and engaging.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Marketing, or a related field; Master's degree is a plus.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in the creative industry, including at least 5+ years in a creative leadership role, preferably within the sports or entertainment industries.
• Exceptional portfolio showcasing expertise in branding, design, and creative storytelling across multiple platforms.
• Expertise in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), After Effects, and 3D graphics software (Cinema 4D or other render engine tools).
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring a creative team.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate creative ideas to both internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Passion for sports and a deep understanding of the Philadelphia marketplace is highly desirable.
