Senior Editor, Penguin Young Readers Brands & Licenses (Hybrid)

Penguin Young Readers is looking for a Senior Editor to develop and oversee publishing programs for our in-house brands and licensed publishing portfolio across Penguin Workshop, Grosset & Dunlap, and Penguin Young Readers Licenses imprints, with a focus on preschool (0-5) and novelty publishing. This position reports to, and will work in collaboration with, the Senior Publishing Manager of Brands & Licenses.

Ideal candidates will come with a strong sense of the marketplace in licensed and preschool publishing, a sense of humor, and a sense of young children. The desire and ability to work as part of a highly collaborative team is a must. This role encompasses the entire publishing process from conception through to publication and beyond.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Knowledge of and appreciation for pop-culture, trends, and young children's brands across a variety of media
• Creating and editing publishing programs around in-house brands and licenses
• Monitoring industry trends in publishing as well as the children's retail market to create innovative book formats
• Developing, nurturing, and maintaining relationships with licensors, authors, agents, and literary estates
• Working with Senior Publishing Manager and Publisher to identify and acquire new licensed brands and media
• Creating P&Ls and negotiates contract terms
• Liaising with production, design, and managing editorial departments; as well as sales, marketing and publicity
• Writing cover copy, catalog copy, and title information sheets.
• Managing internal systems and data gathering: request pricing from Production, run profit & loss statements, research competitive titles, generate acquisition / contract paperwork, update the books system, pull sales figures from Bookscan, and stay on top of internal deadlines.

Please apply if you meet the following requirements:
• At least 5 years children's book experience required with a focus on brands and licensing
• Specific interest in and enthusiasm for 0-5 publishing: board books, novelty books, and picture books for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers
• A collaborative, entrepreneurial and independent thinker
• Strong interpersonal / communication skills and an interest in working and learning collaboratively
• Strong research skills (as applied to generating art notes, sourcing competitive titles for comparison, and cross-checking subject-specific information per book)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe PDFs, PowerPoint, Instagram, and Twitter, and the ability to swiftly learn new systems
• Established contacts in the industry
• Proven experience working with book titles from original concept to bound book
• Exceptional writing skills and attention to detail
• Excellent presentation and negotiation skills
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment

The salary range for this position is $78,000 - $85,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
