The Crown Publishing Group is excited to hire for a Publishing Director, Licensing, to lead our entertainment-licensing initiative, spanning the Clarkson Potter and Ten Speed Press imprints. Working in tandem with the Publisher and the editorial and design teams, the Publishing Director will build on Ten Speed and Potter's existing licensing relationships-which include Wizards of the Coast/Dungeon & Dragons, Netflix, Paramount, and Disney--and identify and develop new content partners in the entertainment/pop culture space.
To succeed in this role, you'll ideally have experience in the book side of licensed publishing (preferrably in illustrated/visual publishing), are well connected in the entertainment-licensing world, and familiar with the acquisition and contract negotiation process. In addition to leading the development and service of new relationships and brand portfolios, the Director will work closely with the Publisher and imprint marketing and publicity teams in setting and executing campaign strategies for each brand portfolio throughout the publishing cycle, coordinating closely with the sales group to maximize our presence in key accounts. Exemplary communication skills are essential, as the right candidate will be helping to establish and nurture partner relationships that span multiple books over multiple imprints. This is a highly collaborative, fast-moving environment that requires constant information sharing and an ability to balance the needs of our teams, our partners, and our authors. Our teams are based both in New York City and the Bay Area, and the ideal candidate resides in or near one of those locations, as there are elements that require us to meet in person, we'd love to have someone be a commutable distance.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Managing the acquisition process for Ten Speed and Potter's growing portfolio of licensed brands:
• Working with Publisher and editorial teams to pursue new partnerships and projects, and ultimately present and negotiate offers with these partners
• Collaborating with legal, contracts, finance, and the publishing teams through all stages of the negotiation and contract processes
• Working with Subrights to help manage and communicate international deal terms to partners
• Working with publishing and licensing team to implement a continued growth plan for the licensing area, including identifying/creating/pitching:
• New potential partners
• Growth opportunities for current partners, along with timely license renewals
• New formats, plus additional formats for current partners
• Comprehensive, multi-year publishing strategies for individual brands
• Working with the Finance team to manage forecasting and business reviews for existing partners, and preparing for and leading semi-annual business review meetings
• Organizing internal workflow to establish and track best terms and practices for licensing deals
• Attending both virtual and in-person events, including partner summits and conventions, and communicating relevant data back to the larger team
• Collaborating closely with imprint marketing and publicity teams, and their counterparts on the brand side, to establish and execute the go-to-market strategy for each portfolio of titles/products
• Working closely with sales and accounts to maximize title and brand presence at key accounts throughout the year
• In-person reviewing of products, illustrations and prints for multiple projects at regular stages of their lifecycle
We'd love to see that you meet the following requirements:
• Minimum of 5 years of experience working with major brands on either licensing IN or licensing OUT
• Proven ability to manage several projects from ideation, through creation and execution
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation skills and attention to detail are a must
• Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to negotiate with business partners and manage multiple relationships
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks on a regular basis, balancing deadlines with a focus on standard of quality and key relationships
• Experience selling or acquiring licensed content in the publishing space is optimal but not required. Familiarity with licensed contracts and their related terms will be useful also
• Enthusiasm for working not only with books, but with major pop culture brands in the film, television, gaming and comic space
• Ability to stay calm and manage pressure and critical feedback from both internal and external parties
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc. as you'll use all these programs, and more, daily to best fulfil your responsibilities

The salary range for this position is $110,000-$130,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
