THE ROLE
Knopf Doubleday's editorial team at Vintage and Anchor Books are currently seeking an Associate Editor to join the team to support the SVP & Editorial Director for Vintage/Anchor in the acquisition and publishing of titles for the group.
ABOUT KNOPF DOUBLEDAY:
Vintage/Anchor publishing list includes a wide range of the most influential works of world literature to cutting edge contemporary fiction and distinguished non-fiction.
The imprint is today's foremost trade paperback publisher, producing paperbacks for Knopf/Pantheon/Doubleday front list titles, publishing hardcover and trade paperback originals, and is the continuous publisher of important writers including William Faulkner, Ralph Ellison, Dashiell Hammett, A.S. Byatt, James Baldwin, and Toni Morrison.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Acquire and edit Vintage Originals and Anchor hardcover books
• Manage 10-12 front list paperback reprint titles per season, in addition to working on backlist reissue initiatives
• Oversee all editorial aspects of book development, including manuscript development and editing, copywriting including jacket, metadata, and other marketing copy as required
• Edit titles acquired by senior staff when appropriate and serve as second set of eyes for potential acquisitions
• Develop and maintain author and agent relationships, scout new talent, liaise with authors and agents
• Maintain publishing/production schedules and meet deadlines
• Participate in editorial meetings and present titles at sales meetings
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrates the ability to build relationships with literary agents, negotiate, and manage books through the editorial/production process
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Strong problem-solving and presentation skills
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and demonstrate strong attention to detail
• Prior experience acquiring manuscripts preferred
• Prior knowledge of the publishing marketplace preferred
• Avid reader of both fiction and nonfiction, with a passion for writing a plus
