Job Description
As a key member of the Software Development & Operations team, the Director, IT Infrastructure & Operations will lead the team responsible for Compute, Messaging, Virtualization, SaaS Applications. The Director, Infrastructure & Operations is responsible for leading on premise data center strategy, cloud infrastructure strategy, infrastructure DevSecOps activities, solution design, implementation, administration, availability, performance.
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Strategic Management
• Executes on the mission, strategy and priorities of the IT Infrastructure organization to maximize the success of business and IT enterprise initiatives.
• Works with business partners to understand and shape business needs;
• Keeps track of trends and provides direction on what emerging technologies should be incorporated into Infrastructure & Operations solutions to successfully deliver overall IT strategy.
• Leads strategic direction and oversight for the full life cycle of IT systems and platforms, and identifies where common approaches, solutions, and shared platforms can drive efficiency.
Management
• Builds successful stakeholder relationships with other IT and business stakeholders by developing a clear understanding of business needs, acting as a trusted advisor, and ensuring cost-effective delivery of IT services to meet those needs.
• Provides input on the annual Infrastructure & Operations budget to ensure that it's consistent with the overall strategic objectives of IT and the enterprise and is within plan. Creates a culture of continuous cost optimization.
• Collaborates with Cybersecurity & Program Management to ensure IT contributes to, embraces, and applies security strategy.
• Introduces innovative, differentiating operations capabilities that enhance our overall competitive capabilities and enhance employee productivity.
• Develops the maturity of the team to improve efficiency, deliver new innovations and increase collaboration with other IT and business areas (e.g., through Agile, DevSecOps, platform, and product approaches).
Governance
• Develops comprehensive and integrated IT Service Management (ITSM) landscape, based on best-practice processes, disciplines, and related toolsets. This includes delivery of a comprehensive IT asset management program.
• Serves on IT planning and policymaking committees; drives the development and adoption of enterprise technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics.
Innovation
• Introduces innovative, differentiating infrastructure capabilities that enhance our overall competitive capabilities and enhance employee productivity.
• Develops and executes a strategy to improve awareness of the business value that the IT function provides, and continuously seeks to ensure alignment to customer needs.
• Champions involvement in the organization's innovation efforts and encourages team to experiment with new solutions to enable business opportunities.
• Supports IT transformation efforts by implementing infrastructure solutions that align to the overall IT Technology Vision.
Vendor Management
• Selects vendors and service providers as well as services via competitive process. Provides advice and recommendations throughout vendor negotiations and contract development. Reviews service provider performance over the life of established relationships and reports as appropriate. Acts as primary relationship owner for vendor relationship.
People Management
• Designs and develops a strong and diverse leadership team to ensure a strong continuity of leadership within the team.
• Works collaboratively with direct reports to support their career progression, nurture their development and to help them realize their potential.
• Works with HR and the IT leadership team to develop and execute workforce plans that ensure IT can supply skilled resources to meet demand.
Change Management
• Develops and executes appropriate communication, process and educational plans for mitigating the disruption of change. Identifies and removes obstacles to change, and assists in the creation and execution of any change management plan.
• Coaches team about company decision making processes, prioritization, and function-business alignment. Initiates, develops, directs, and ensures success of the improvement processes that impacts customer satisfaction and relationships to include standard operating procedures and onboarding and offboarding processes
• Champions involvement in the organization's innovation efforts and encourages team to experiment with new solutions to enable business opportunities
• Supports IT transformation efforts by implementing infrastructure solutions that align to the overall IT Technology Vision.
Requirements for success:
• Minimum 10 years of subject matter experience and business/industry work experience and 5 years of leadership experience
• Experience managing teams and building relationships with people at a variety of levels.
• Demonstrated ability to launch and deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Continuing professional education in the areas of leadership and organizational development
• Training and Certification in Project Management highly desired
• Training and Certification in ITILv3 Service Lifecycle Management highly desired
Technical Skills and Abilities Required:
• Cloud architecture and solutions design utilizing AWS and Azure
• Understanding of hybrid cloud infrastructure
• Ability to apply Agile and SCRUM techniques to project management
• Managing infrastructure DevSecOps activities
• Familiar with Kubernetes multi cluster management
• Familiarity with Agile and SCRUM project activities and practices
• Virtualization technologies such as VMware
• Storage Area Networks and associated Block, File, and SAN technologies from vendors such as Brocade, HP, EMC, NetApp, or IBM
• Management of DNS both on-premise and in the cloud
• Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time using a tool such as Microsoft Project
• Experience using Jira and Confluence
• Experience managing UNIX and Windows operating systems
