the management of a robust slate of multiplatform science, nature, and environmental programs in support of PBS's mission to serve the American public and member stations with media that educates, inspires and expresses a diversity of perspectives.

The Associate Director, Programming and Development will work closely with the Senior Director, Multiplatform Programming and Development in overseeing the day-to-day development and oversight of science and nature programming from both member stations and external producers. This role will aid in the management of shows in this portfolio and will be responsible for shepherding programs from idea through delivery and distribution. The Associate Director will be a key editorial contributor on the General Audience team working to review potential new projects in the development pipeline in addition to ensuring that all the titles in production adhere to the highest editorial, creative and scientific standards.

They will also be a key communicator about the status of the shows in the science and nature portfolio, serving as the internal point of contact for PBS stakeholders, helping to disseminate information about the status of shows in production and communicating relevant updates with production teams. In addition, they will work collaboratively across departments and with external partners to ensure that the shows have the maximum reach and impact.
• Work closely with Senior Director, Programming and Development to execute editorial responsibilities for science and nature series and specials including:
• Aiding in the review and development of new science and nature shows and providing timely editorial and business feedback to producers
• Keeping up-to-date tracking information on the status of all titles in development and production from both member stations and external producers
• Engaging with production teams regularly to ensure that the editorial vision that was agreed upon at the beginning of production is executed
• Preparing presentations for stakeholders and reports for grant partners
• Aid in the development and execution of activations with both external and internal stakeholders and work to advance collaborations with partners in the conservation and climate change communities
• Contribute editorial and strategic ideas for how to increase the visibility and impact of shows in the nature and science portfolio
• Other responsibilities as assigned

Requirements for success:
• 5-8 years of experience working in a television development, production or project management role
• Experience working in public media, broadcast television, independent film, or television production strongly preferred
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of skills, training and work experience
• Experience with the development or production of science, nature and/or environmental programming is a major plus
• Experience with both longform and digital content
• Track record for effectively managing production teams from idea to delivery
• Strong interest in science, nature and/or climate documentaries
• Familiarity with PBS's science, nature, and environmental programming
• Superior written and oral communication skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, independent work environment
• Positive attitude and superb organizational skills
• Proven ability to build consensus and work collaboratively across teams
