OVERVIEW
WILD CARD with Rachel Martin is a new podcast from NPR. Using a deck of cards with prompts that explore the memories, insights and beliefs that shape our lives, Rachel guides noteworthy guests to open up about their fears, joys, and ways of making sense of the world. Along the way, listeners connect on a deeper level with people they think they know. Elements of the weekly podcast will appear each week on ALL THINGS CONSIDERED.
INTRO TO POSITION
We're looking for a creative and versatile Associate Producer to join our collaborative three-person team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about arts and entertainment, deep-dive interviews, and finding new ways to connect with audiences. The Associate Producer will have a hand in all aspects of production and thus should be able to thrive in team environments.
This position will start roughly on January 6th, 2025, and go through June 13, 2025.
This is a union represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Proficient at mixing more complex pieces with scoring with speed and few revisions.
• Pitch smart, thoughtful guest ideas that feel of-the-moment.
• Conduct in-depth guest research and identify important threads for host to follow.
• Demonstrate creativity in working within a rigid show format.
• Communicate early and clearly with video, engineering, operations, and digital teams to ensure complex show recordings go off without a hitch.
• Book guests and develop strong relationships with publicists.
• Handle booking logistics for guests.
• Edit copy, interactive material, and multimedia content.
• Demonstrated responsibility for social and digital strategy.
• Fact-check the podcast and other associated content.
• Be an active participant in team meetings.
• Create and maintain team workflow processes, with supervision.
• Provide strategic support to grow show's audience and identify collaborations and promotion opportunities, if applicable.
• Plan and coordinate team projects and initiatives with supervision - such as series or audience engagement.
• Work closely with departments across the organization.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• 3-4 years audio editing and production experience.
• 3-4 years experience researching and writing for audio: broadcast and/or podcast.
• Experience with and demonstrated commitment to fact-checking.
• A passion for and knowledge of the most thoughtful and interesting people across the arts.
• Ability to effectively collaborate with others, demonstrating, at all times, respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and beyond.
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, under stringent deadlines and changing conditions; ability to prioritize, anticipate and communicate effectively.
• Ability to work independently but also work well as part of a team.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule.
• Ability to travel for work assignments.
• Highly supportive of cultivating and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience with long form interviews.
• Ability to work from DC headquarters weekly.
• Experience booking high profile guests.
WORK LOCATION
• Hybrid Permitted: This is a hybrid permitted role. Some aspects of this role include duties that are better performed at an NPR facility. The employee will be required to be onsite at the Washington, DC office at least 10 days a year. The employee must also reside in an NPR supported location based on the number of onsite days they choose.
JOB TYPE
• This is a temporary (5-month) full time position.
COMPENSATION
Hourly Rate: The US based anticipated hourly rate for this opportunity is $42.07 per hour. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum hourly rate NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
