Producer I, Arts & Culture Hub (Temporary)
OVERVIEW
NPR's Arts & Culture Hub offers news, discovery and analysis of arts and culture to curious audiences on digital, radio, podcasts, social platforms, and video. We also cover the many elements of culture-from television, film, music, books, the arts and the internet - to the moments when people come together for shared experiences large and small. We uplift voices and perspectives that enrich and deepen our understanding of today's cultural conversations. We provide original reporting, insight, context, and signature curation initiatives that set NPR apart as a relevant journalism and cultural institution.
INTRO TO POSITION
NPR is looking for a producer who brings enthusiasm for and knowledge of the arts and pop culture to their daily work. They will support reporters and critics across the desk as they look for tape and fresh sourcing to enrich our coverage, and they will elevate that work with keen audio production skills. They will also produce NPR's Book of the Day podcast, working closely with the host and editor. We also hope to create opportunities for this producer to report on cultural stories for the website and our broadcast magazines. Throughout the work, the ACH producer will focus on the audience and their cultural curiosity.
This is a union represented role covered under the terms of a collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Highly developed mixing and scoring skills with little to no supervision and on tight deadlines (such as scoring with music, multi-track mixing, etc.);
• Thorough knowledge of a beat, frequently pitching and developing story ideas;
• Competent in SEO, headline writing and other engagement best practices to ensure that all digital stories produced are ready for posting;
• Planning, editing, reporting, and producing coverage;
• Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
• Produce NPR's Book of the Day podcast;
• Write and report stories as assigned;
• File spots when requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of 4 years of experience radio production and podcast experience
• Demonstrated ability to assimilate and organize large amounts of information.
• Ability to produce high-quality stories quickly under deadline pressure
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, with changing priorities/conditions.
• Ability to work independently and also work well as part of a team
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral
• Understanding of journalistic ethics.
• Highly supportive of cultivating and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Daily news experience
• Experience in Digital Media, CMS
• Radio or broadcast experience is extremely desirable
• Experience working in and/or knowledge of public radio and the public radio system
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT
Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
WORK LOCATION
• Remote Permitted: This is a remote permitted role. This role is based out of our Washington, DC office but the employee may choose to work on a remote basis from a location that NPR approves.
JOB TYPE
• This is a temporary (9-month) full time position.
COMPENSATION
Salary Range: The US based anticipated salary range for this opportunity is $97,500 plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salaries NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
Hourly Rate: The US based anticipated hourly rate for this opportunity is $46.88 per hour. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum hourly rate NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
