Job Description
OVERVIEW

The Content Operations department manages production systems, projects, and resources. It also designs and facilitates workflows, processes, and services for audio, video, and other digital content creation, asset management, and distribution across multiple NPR platforms.

Reporting to the VP of Content Operations, you will lead the end-to-end strategic direction of digital content production practices across platforms. You will also support the work of our editorial production teams, allowing them to create the best content possible for the best audience experience. This role collaborates with other operations, technology, and editorial leaders and oversees the Digital Content Ops and Podcast Ops teams. Together you will ensure our digital assets are managed across their lifecycle from creation to distribution and preservation. In this role, you will also put into action long and short-term daily production practices required to successfully deliver our digital assets (audio/video/text) to NPR's owned and operated digital product portfolio, including to Member stations and third-party distribution channels and platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead strategy, implementation, and operational workflow for managing NPR's digital assets and podcast production/distribution.
• Partner with Content and Technology units to successfully deliver digital assets daily.
• Lead and mentor a team of digital content specialists to cover a nearly 24x7 operation.
• Act as the critical point of contact for all live streaming and on-demand audio and video on NPR digital platforms for breaking news, special programming, and other events. Manage resources to provide live media recording, editing, and encoding for publishing to NPR digital platforms.
• Act as product owner and primary liaison between NPR and asset distribution, encoding, and streaming vendors.
• Consults with editorial and tech teams on the selection/build/implementation of digital asset management systems to accommodate NPR taxonomies and metadata schemas.
• Work with the legal and business development teams to ensure the proper application of rights management to all digital assets
• Coordinate with tech and Ops leaders on the support processes for responding to technical and workflow issues related to digital content and NPR products.
• Contribute to a culture of collaboration and innovation across all disciplines.
• Supervise at least two direct reports, including preparing their regular performance reviews and making practical hiring, promotion, and discipline recommendations for these positions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Ten years of experience managing media assets in a media or broadcast environment
• Five years of experience working directly with CDNs to implement media delivery services.
• Expertise in designing enterprise architectures for live and on-demand streaming.
• Demonstrated experience with audio and video editing or encoding software.
• Leadership skills – demonstrated success in coaching and mentoring teams.
• Excellent experience navigating content creation, production, and distribution editorial and technical aspects.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills – extreme comfort with data-driven decision-making and performing operational analysis.
• Implementation proficiency – the ability to translate strategic differentiators into innovative and detailed product requirements.
• Excellent communication skills - demonstrated success for building buy-in for innovative and bold visions across disciplines.
• Editorial sensibility
• Technical aptitude -understanding and discussing workflow concepts, schedule tradeoffs, and new opportunities with editorial and technical colleagues.
• Passion for public media's digital future.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Familiarity with audio production workflows, podcast publishing, and radio broadcasting technologies
• Experience in supporting or implementing new processes and systems to exploit new or emerging technologies
• Flexibility to work non-standard business hours.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in media operations management/media production

WORK LOCATION
• This is a hybrid permitted role. Some aspects of this role include duties that are better performed at an NPR facility. The employee will be required to be onsite at the Washington, DC office at least 10 days a year. The employee must also reside in an NPR supported location based on the number of onsite days they choose.

JOB TYPE
• This is a full time, exempt position.

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: The US based anticipated salary range for this opportunity is $125,548 - 145,371 plus benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum salaries NPR expects to provide for new hires for the position across all US locations.
