Job Description
The Senior Director, Associate General Counsel – Labor & Employment will provide legal advice and guidance to internal clients in all areas of state and federal labor laws, will support the Human Resources team on employment matters, and will manage outside counsel in legal proceedings and union activity involving the company.
Responsibilities:
• Provide counsel and guidance to management on a wide range of labor/union matters, including interpretation of contract issues arising under collective bargaining agreements and advising on labor law issues and disputes
• Manage disciplinary matters, grievances and arbitrations
• Participate in campaigns and bargaining with the unions
• Provide training to business units regarding labor relations issues, union avoidance, etc.
• Provide legal advice and guidance to internal clients on issues involving employment law, including terminations, reasonable accommodations, employment agreements, wage/hour matters, disciplinary actions, performance management, and general employee relations
• Conduct and/or supervise internal investigations related to harassment, discrimination, and other law and policy violations
• Negotiating, drafting, and providing advice on employment agreements, separation agreements, and other employment-related documents
• Conducting legal risk assessments and mitigating risk to the company by guiding internal clients to sound employment decisions
• Review/revise existing policies and procedures, and drafting new ones when necessary
• Manage outside counsel in litigation, arbitrations, and administrative legal proceedings
• Respond to administrative charges, pre-filing demands, and employment-related subpoenas and requests for personnel records
• Ensure compliance with employment-related regulations including ADA, FMLA, OFCCP, etc.
• Other duties consistent with the role as assigned
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school
• Active member in good standing with at least one state bar association
• 8+ years' experience in traditional labor and employment law in either a law firm or a corporate legal department
• Experience counseling management and/or handling arbitrations under the National Labor Relations Act
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Expert level knowledge of labor and employment law and the ability to simplify and impart knowledge to non-expert internal clients
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and tools
• Travel up to 35% of the time
Salary Range: $180,000 - $200,000
