Louisiana First News is looking for a dedicated Investigative Producer/Photographer to uncover impactful stories that matter to the people of Baton Rouge and beyond. This role is responsible for researching, developing, and producing in-depth investigative reports that inform the public, expose wrongdoing, and hold the powerful accountable. The ideal candidate has a strong sense of storytelling, advanced videography skills, and a passion for investigative reporting. You'll work alongside our Chief Investigator to deliver compelling investigative content across multiple platforms, including broadcast, digital, and social media.
• Key Responsibilities:
• Photography & Videography:
• Shoot, edit, and produce high-quality video content for investigative reports.
• Capture compelling visuals and sound to enhance storytelling.
• Operate professional video equipment, lighting, and audio gear.
• Ensure all footage meets technical and journalistic standards.
• Collaboration & Production:
• Work closely with the news team to execute investigative projects efficiently.
• Collaborate with reporters and producers to craft compelling narratives and scripts.
• Assist in the production of special reports, documentaries, and long-form storytelling.
• Stay updated on investigative reporting techniques, legal considerations, and ethical guidelines.
• Coordinate with digital teams to optimize investigative content for web and social media.
• Qualifications & Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in investigative journalism, producing, or photojournalism.
• Must have a valid drivers liscense.
• Strong knowledge of investigative techniques, open records laws, and ethical journalism.
• Proficiency in video editing software (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, etc.).
• Skilled in shooting high-quality video with professional cameras and equipment.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong storytelling skills with a passion for accountability journalism.
• Knowledge of social media platforms and digital storytelling techniques.
• Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with data journalism and data visualization tools.
• Familiarity with FOIA requests and legal aspects of investigative reporting.
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex data sets for storytelling.
• Work Environment & Schedule:
• Requires flexible hours, including nights and weekends, based on story demands.
• Fieldwork, travel, and occasional on-call duties required.
• Must be able to lift and hold camera equipment.
