NewsNation Booking/Segment Producer, Prime Weekends (Chicago)
NewsNation is looking for a booking/segment producer to work on the network's flagship weekend primetime newscast.
The Booking Producer/Segment Producer works with show producers to arrange guest appearances on the program to discuss news of the day, breaking news, and long-form investigations, deep-dives, and in-depth conversations with leaders and lawmakers. NewsNation Prime also focuses on Pulse of America bookings, speaking with real Americans from across the country about what they are seeing and facing, shining a spotlight on the under told stories across the country.
The producer also works to write guest segments, including script writing, visual element gathering, and graphics requests. NewsNation stands out in a competitive news environment by storytelling in a dynamic, visually forward way. What can NewsNation do to storytell in a way that gives our viewer something more, key takeaways, and bring them back next time.
You must have excellent organizational skills, be an effective communicator, be detail-oriented, be a solid broadcast writer, and work well under deadline pressure. The position is based in our Chicago office.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Pitch stories daily
• Identify top tier guests, cultivate relationships, and arrange guest appearances on the show
• Conduct pre-interviews and in-depth research on range of topics
• Organize and produce elements for show and interview segments
• Monitor the latest news and locate people, images, and sound editorial information via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Dataminr, YouTube, and other platforms
• Find reliable guests/witnesses quickly during breaking news situations
• Perform other duties as assigned by Executive Producer and Senior Producer or network leadership
Requirements & Skills:
• Five or more years' experience in national or major-market news
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in journalism or related field.
• Must exhibit strong news judgment and editorial sensibilities
• Strong broadcast newswriting skills are required
• Must be able to create dynamic graphic and video elements
• Must be self-directing, self-motivating and able to work will with a diverse group of people
• Must interact well with on-air talent, news managers, videographers, production, digital and engineering staff
• Should be able to handle stress, including short deadlines
• Should be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time
• Must be able to work assigned shifts and be on call during overnights, mornings and weekends/holidays
Salary Range: $65,000 – 75,000
