Job Description
Games Platform Technical Leader (L6)

The Role

Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 270 million paid memberships in over 190 countries. We are passionate about delivering joy to hundreds of millions of Netflix members worldwide, whether traveling to a remote location or at home with family. In addition to great shows and movies, our membership now includes exclusive access to a growing portfolio of high-quality games.

The Games Platform team is on a mission to ''Empower Game Developers to do the best work of their lives by creating technical experiences that leverage Netflix's unique superpowers such as data-driven decision-making, ''just works'' launch experience, global content reach, an ecosystem of IP and truly multi-device experiences, all in the pursuit of delighting members''

The three main teams are
- Game Systems (GSYS) - building the backend infrastructure to support Game Platform Experiences, such as Social, our API infrastructure ''Web API'' and various services that create better Player Experiences (e.g. saves, leaderboards, achievements).
- Games Lifecycle Engineering (GLE) - onboard to sunset lifecycle for game developers, the bridge between game production and game release
- Games Platform Reliability (GPR)
- reliability on our game services, titles, and general Games health and observability

As the Games Platform Technical Leader, you will identify and solve a diverse set of challenges across the teams and act as a cross-functional bridge within Games Platform as well as outside stakeholders and partners. At times, you will dive more deeply into a specific domain to help bootstrap a high-level initiative or support a team to achieve non-linear results (aka ''smokejumper''). In other cases, you give the appropriate space, support, and feedback to the designated technical leader of a project so they can thrive (e.g. Social Platform tech lead).

Responsibilities
• Dive deep and understand problems across the major investments within Games Platform spanning our API, Game Services, Lifecycle and Reliability efforts
• Partner with other senior technical ICs across Games Platform and Games Experience Engineering to advocate for major technical investments that will set us up for success for years to come
• Collaborate with ICs in other orgs (Content, Security, Infrastructure, Data & Insights, Internal Game Studios) to advocate for holistic solutions to balance Gaming and Netflix concerns
• Assist in the career development of others, actively mentoring individuals and building the IC technical community across Games Experience Engineering
• Be a part of Games Platform Direct staff to help shape organizational, partner, and technical strategy
• Product-minded IC that ensures technical direction is compatible with product direction and vice versa

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a ''key-shaped'' engineer, with the demonstrated ability to go both broad and deep into multiple technical domains, to help engineering teams connect the dots and do their best work.

You may be a good match for this role if you;
- are comfortable with ambiguous and fast-paced technical environments that require prototyping, experimenting, and iterating (including throwing away code) to get to product market fit.
- are deeply technical with success in setting the technical direction for engineering projects, making strategic, architectural decisions and influencing cross-functional teams.
- are strongly motivated to learn new domains and expand your current scope.
- are curious about discovering innovative ways to solve problems.
- are able to work with senior leadership to develop a long-term technical strategy and map business goals to appropriate technology investments.
- have a proven track record in designing, building, and operating distributed systems with high availability, throughput, fault tolerance, and performance.
- are self-driven and highly motivated to deliver critical-tiered solutions.
- are passionate about guiding and mentoring stunning colleagues.
- convey complex technical concepts to a variety of stakeholders, driving conversations and decisions through written and/or verbal communication.
