The Role
Our growing global CMOs & Collective Music Licensing team, currently based in Berlin and London, is looking for a Director, CMOs & Collective Music Licensing who shares our passion for music and the entertainment industry. Location: Preferably based in Berlin or London, but the right candidate could be based in one of our other European offices (Amsterdam, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, or Warsaw). This role will require some travel. The role reports to one of the co-leads of the CMOs & Collective Music Licensing team.

Team Overview

The CMOs & Collective Music Licensing team is responsible for structuring, drafting, and negotiating agreements with performance rights organisations and other collective management organisations (''CMOs'') globally and setting related commercial and legal licensing strategies. The CMOs & Collective Music Licensing team negotiates with CMOs that license music publishing rights or manage other types of authors' or performers' rights. In close collaboration with internal teams and local lawyers, the CMOs & Collective Music Licensing team also supports related public policy matters, regulatory proceedings, and litigation globally. Our team has highly detailed and specialist insight into the requirements of an entity that is both a global rights owner and a global rights licensee.

Your Responsibilities
• Structure and negotiate agreements with CMOs and other rightsholders, taking ownership of the relationship and deal process from start to finish.
• Prepare the commercial and, together with other internal stakeholders, legal strategies for negotiating agreements with CMOs.
• Work with internal and external stakeholders on agreements, related disputes and public policy matters, and review technical and financial data.
• Advise on CMO-related issues as they affect discussions with licensors or producers of film and TV content globally.

Experience needed
• 10+ years in the entertainment industry, with expertise in structuring and negotiating commercial agreements with CMOs and music publishers in multiple jurisdictions.
• In-depth knowledge of copyright in the audio-visual or audio sector, ideally including series/film production.
• Strong understanding of issues facing technology companies in the content space.
• Practical knowledge of the entertainment and technology industries, including data and operational challenges (in particular those relating to the online management of music publishing rights).
• Commercial mindset with a good understanding of financial considerations and tradeoffs
• Familiarity with the evolving CMO, VOD, and linear broadcasting landscapes.
• Experience with production-side music issues is a plus.
• Preferred: Experience providing in-house support for digital service providers.
• Active international relationships with CMOs and music publishers.
• A commitment to embrace and advocate for inclusion.
• Fluent in English. Other languages (e.g., French, Italian, and/or Spanish) are a plus.
