The Role

As Counsel, CMOs & Collective Music Licensing at Netflix, you will work on exciting legal issues that require creative and proactive legal guidance. You will be part of our growing global CMOs & Collective Music Licensing team, currently based in Berlin and London. This role reports to one of the co-leads of the CMOs & Collective Music Licensing team.

Location: Preferably based in Berlin or London, but the right candidate could be based in one of our other European offices (Amsterdam, Madrid, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Warsaw). This role will require some travel.

The CMOs & Collective Music Licensing team is responsible for structuring, drafting, and negotiating agreements with performance rights organisations and other collective management organizations (''CMOs'') globally and setting related commercial and legal licensing strategies. In close collaboration with internal teams and local lawyers, the CMOs & Collective Music Licensing team also supports related public policy matters, regulatory proceedings, and litigation globally.

Netflix enters into agreements with CMOs that license music publishing rights or manage other types of authors' or performers' rights. Our team has highly detailed and specialist insight into the requirements of an entity that is both a global rights owner and a global rights licensee.

Your Responsibilities:
• Handle legal due diligence and related legal research in the countries in which Netflix operates with internal and external counsel.
• Assess the changing regulatory environment in which Netflix operates.
• Support the team in drafting agreements with CMOs and in negotiations.
• Negotiate agreements with CMOs.
• Support regulatory proceedings and litigation cases with internal and external counsel.
• Interact internally with all relevant teams to design and execute the best legal approach and strategy to CMOs and collective licensing.
• Engage with regulators, legislators, and authorities on CMO-related matters.
• Conduct legal reviews of how product changes affect our CMO strategy and our agreements with CMOs.

Requirements:
• Bachelor of Law or comparable law degree from a European country.
• 4 + years of experience in the entertainment industry in a law firm or in-house in any European country advising on commercial agreements with digital media and entertainment companies and CMOs, and related litigation.
• In-depth knowledge of copyright in the audio or audiovisual industry, including data and operational challenges.
• Understanding of the interplay between multiple moving parts of the audiovisual and music industry.
• Ability to communicate fluently in English (fluency in another major language (e.g., French, Italian, and/or Spanish) is a plus.
• Ability to think globally.

Preferred Experience :
• Experience working on regulatory matters, including analyzing and advising on proposed and current regulation related to CMOs.
• Experience working with laws and practices in multiple jurisdictions.
• Experience in CMO related litigation.
• Exceptional drafting and project management skills.
• Ability to manage numerous projects proactively and simultaneously under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment.
• Clear, concise, and effective communication and presentation style adaptable to local markets,
• Ability to evaluate risk with imperfect information and make quick decisions.
• Excellent business acumen, strategic and creative thinking, and judgment.
• Resourceful, able to pivot quickly, think practically, and be solution-oriented.
• Curiosity for technology, reporting formats, and music data.
