Role Purpose
Director, Studio Group Controllership - Participations & Residuals Accounting, will be responsible for the Participations & Residuals (''P&R'') accounting and reporting of both Film and TV. The role is in a complex and fast-paced environment with opportunities for growth including policy and processes alignment efforts following the recent integration of Film and Television P&R into one Studio Group P&R Accounting team as well as involvement in the implementation of SAP S/4 across NBCUniversal (underway now, with a 2026 go-live).
This role will be critical to managing the monthly financial close process and special projects for P&R accounting and reporting, working closely with other Controllership teams, FP&A, and the Financial Contracts and Reporting group (''FCAR'').
This role will supervise a Senior Manager and Senior Accountant, and will report to the VP, Studio Support and P&R Accounting.
Responsibilities
• Direct and manage the participations and residuals accounting and reporting functions of both Film and TV
• Lead special projects and enhancement efforts contributing to P&R accounting controllership objectives, in addition to supporting ad-hoc requests in the day-to-day operations
• Manage key monthly and quarterly closing processes to ensure quality, accuracy and timeliness with a focus on the P&R balance sheet accounts and related analyses, including:
• Review journal entries and supporting schedules
• Review Data Requests and other deliverables for internal and external reporting
• Review monthly and quarterly balance sheet variance analyses and Balance Sheet Review packages
• Review and analyze balance sheet account reconciliations, esp. the monthly Participations and Residuals rollforwards
• Partner regularly with FCAR and FP&A Ultimates teams to ensure accuracy and completeness of P&R liability balances
• Facilitate and support both internal and external audit requests
• Monitor key internal controls over financial reporting to ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley
• Coach and develop staff professionally and technically
• Cultivate an environment where staff can produce high quality results, actively be involved in process improvements, and collaborate
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance equivalent
• 10+ years of accounting-related experience. Combination of public accounting and entertainment industry preferred. Straight public candidates with significant experience working with entertainment industry and relevant technical accounting matters will be considered.
• Microsoft Suites skills are essential, including advanced/exceptional Excel skills (X-Lookups, pivot tables, etc.) and proficiency with Word and PowerPoint
Desired Characteristics:
• CPA highly preferred
• Experience with SAP and AoE preferred
• Strong detail-oriented skills, analytical and issue resolution capabilities. Proactive approach to problem solving, able to identify issues and make recommendations for solutions.
• Excellent organizational skills, and proven ability to multi-task and effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills – ability to present and communicate ideas and thoughts to all levels of the organization from senior management to entry-level staff
• Thorough professional training and expert in accounting principles, systems and controls
Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
