Responsibilities
Reporting to the Vice President of Transmission Engineering, the Director of Transmission Technical Operations and Engineering will drive design and execution of the technologies which are at the backbone of the NBC Sports, Olympics, and Peacock production infrastructure.

This Director position is a leader within the NBC Sports and Olympics Engineering organizations and must be customer focused and team oriented to continue to build an industry leading organization in the sports technology world. The role will constantly work to improve performance and efficiency of the Broadcast Operations Center (BOC) and ensure service interruptions are proactively remedied in a productive manner. You'll effectively lead multiple groups responsible for successful technical operations of a Premier sports network.

A day in the life:
• Oversee the daily management of the Transmission Operational and Engineering teams for a goal of 99.999% reliability
• Develop and manage aggressive metrics that improve team performance and customer impact
• Support process development and documentation creating legacy knowledge and efficiencies for operating the business
• Lead efforts to create a more technically advanced workforce, capable of maintaining and monitoring IP-based and cloud technologies
• Drive innovation for our operational and technical teams which will help drive scalability and efficiency within the day-to-day workflows

Responsibilities
• Overall responsibility for all-day-to-day Transmission activities, including transmission facilities (inside the building and outside), remote facilities and oversight of the transmission and ingest operations
• Responsible for ensuring that technology is delivered on scalable and reliable platforms that will meet business requirements and can seamlessly integrate with existing infrastructure and systems
• Oversees staff training, employee safety, and quality control for all linear and non-linear broadcast productions
• Work in concert with the Sports, Olympic and Peacock Operations as well as the Engineering staff to identify new technologies for efficient and cutting-edge operations.
• Create strategies for optimization and efficiency in all aspects of the operations. This includes ingest, fiber connectivity, IP transport workflows, legal compliance, transmission, etc.
• Maintain and grow existing and new vendor relationships.
• Serve as a conduit to all other technical departments within NBC Sports and NBC Universal. This includes Production Operations, Remote Technical Operations, Sports/Olympics Engineering.
• Manage the Design and Creation of standard operating procedures for all transmission technologies activities, which include: audio/video and communications check-in and QC process for remotes, outgoing transmission activity, and ingest. This includes linear Broadcast as well as digital stream creation.
• Scheduling staff, etc. Financial, etc

Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Requirements
• Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant technical experience and at least four (4) years of direct accountability managing a team people of highly technical and operations professionals
• Ability to lead high-priority deadline driven projects to accomplish business and production initiatives
• Excellent communicator and be able to manage highly technical operations and engineering teams while interfacing with Production Operations, Production Executives, and 3rd party vendors
• Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of highly complex systems for television signal origination and distribution
• Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of IP transport networks and workflows, encryption and security protocols, compression methods, video/audio formats, streaming technologies and standards
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Position requires a cool, level headed individual who works well under pressure.
• Ability to prepare and deliver written and oral communications of complex matters.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends and holiday as needed.
