Responsibilities

We are looking for a bright, proactive and ambitious Associate Reporter to be a part of the NBC News Social Newsgathering Team. This candidate will help with finding and verifying breaking and developing news online to support storytelling across all NBC News platforms. 

The ideal candidate should have a passion for news and knowledge of social media platforms, as well as interviewing and reporting skills. The candidate should be able to work in a deadline-driven environment, take direction well, understand domestic and foreign news, and excel at discovering and critically examining information, photos and videos across social and digital platforms. The Associate Reporter will join a team that develops innovative approaches to gathering information and telling stories, serving all NBC News digital and television brands.

A candidate with previous experience working in a newsroom is preferred. This candidate should be comfortable covering stories across a variety of topics – from breaking news to criminal justice to sports to pop culture. Finally, the ideal candidate must be a team player who is comfortable collaborating across platforms and departments.

Job Duties:
• Monitor social media platforms for breaking, feature and trending news stories
• Interview eyewitnesses for breaking news stories
• Find, verify and report on user-generated content (UGC) 
• Monitor the NBC News tips inbox through email, phone and messaging apps, and consult with the desk's senior leadership team to determine which tips are actionable
• Publish daily team digest reports for internal distribution throughout NBC News
• Collaborate with NBC News digital and television units on newsgathering and social media initiatives

Qualifications/Requirements
• At least one year working in a role that includes the use
of social media at either a news operation or agency with

a focus on news and storytelling
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent

Additional Requirements:
• Must be willing and able to work flexible hours including

evenings/late hours and weekends
• Must be willing to work in New York.
-Must submit an attestation disclosing your COVID-19 vaccination status and, if partially or fully vaccinated, submitting your vaccination record no later than 7 days following commencement of employment.
-Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the commencement of employment or must undergo regular COVID-19 testing if Company determines your job position requires accessing an NBCUniversal worksite.
-Must be willing to adhere to all Company COVID-19 workplace safety policies and protocols.
