Responsibilities
NBC News is seeking an experienced Art Director to join our growing Commerce team. The Art Director will work closely with creative leadership and editorial stakeholders to manage and expand the visual direction of Shop TODAY and NBC Select. The Art Director will supervise and manage a team of photo editors, photographers, and designers, and will collaborate daily with editors.

Job Duties:
• Provide clear and conceptually driven art direction for article art (photography, photo illustration, and illustration) to an inhouse team of photo editors, illustrators, and designers.
• Provide design and art direction for our graphic design on social platforms.
• Lead and mentor a team of photo editors, photographers, and designers.
• Develop style guides and work processes for the Commerce art team.
• Commission and art direct freelance illustrators and photographers, along with managing contracts and invoicing.
• Ability to meet deadlines and to adapt to change in a daily, unpredictable news production environment.
• Ensure use of copyrighted and/or user-generated images comply with NBC's rights-and-clearances protocols.

Qualifications/Requirements
Essential Requirements:
• 5+ relevant years of experience working in design, photography and/or illustration.
• Experience art directing and producing product and lifestyle photoshoots.
• Portfolio that demonstrates an eye for storytelling, concept, composition, color and typography.
• Able to work on quick deadlines, alongside other project stakeholders.
• Work easily between multiple content and CMS types to publish work on deadline.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Willingness to work flexible days and hours and under tight deadline pressure, including peak shopping holidays (Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Prime Days)
• Must be willing to work in NYC.
• Experience as a photo editor/designer at a lifestyle publisher or retail brand a plus

Experience and Skills:
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator).
• Meet deadlines with fast turnarounds, and implement last-minute feedback

Additional Requirements:
