Job Description

The Junior Publicist for MSNBC will provide communications support for the Media Relations team, including the day-to-day press efforts, publicity and communications for MSNBC's weekend programming and MSNBC Films division.

Note: The role is a Wednesday to Sunday position.

Responsibilities:
• Pitch show content and draft press releases for weekend programming and MSNBC Films
• Partner with Publicist overseeing MSNBC Weekends to serve as liaison between editorial leads, talent and and internal/external partners for weekend editorial content and MSNBC Films initiatives
• Collaborate with Senior Director of MSNBC Films to plan and execute select events for film festivals across the country
• Day-to-day media monitoring and daily clippings
• Assist team with coordinating various media requests to support MSNBC Films and weekend editorial
• Assist team in managing the MSNBC Media Relations' social media account, including monitoring and drafting tweets
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with talent, producers, public relations agencies and representatives in order to ensure maximum positive coverage for MSNBC programming
• Coordinate with hosts and show teams to identify best bites and news-making moments, generating coverage from segments and interviews
• Support weekend show teams and hosts with breaking news and developments
• Contribute to story development and craft pitch angles for MSNBC content
• Manage and update ongoing team lists, including press lists, requested trackers, messaging materials, team calendars and other office needs
• Manage multiple projects as assigned, including NBCU News Group related content and initiatives

Note: This position requires non-traditional work hours and will at times require late night and after-hours work.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Public Relations or related field preferred
• Two years of experience working in either public affairs or public relations at a media company or PR agency
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and more
• Must be willing to work in New York
• Willingness to travel and work overtime, and on weekdays with short notice
• Must be available for irregular ''on call shifts'' 24 hours a day / 7 days a week

• Excellent interpersonal communications skills
• Experience with media, news, television network or politics preferred
• Ability to prioritize and multitask over a wide range of responsibilities and areas
• Excellent verbal and written communications abilities
• Passion for politics and news media
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment and meet crucial deadlines
• Highly proficient in time management and communication
• Ability to work independently as well as on various teams and projects

Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
