Position Summary:
The Assistant Director/Research Lead, Sports Science position is responsible for integrating scientific principles and cutting-edge technology into the team's training and performance programs. This role is to provide support and expertise in optimizing the performance, health, and well-being of the players.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Technical Leadership and Individual Contributions
• Lead Biomechanics Data integration into MLB and Player Development processes by working directly with MLB Staff, Player Development Biomechanists, and Sports Science/Baseball Research Leadership.
• Lead efforts for research in Sports Science by identifying novel research directors, planning the analytical approach, and executing development of research projects.
• Participate in the creation, validation, and maintenance of models to assess movement efficiency and its relation to player talent, production, and health.
• Provide critical review of work by other analysts in Sports Science and mentor analysts on proper usage of biomechanical theories and modern modeling.
• Work with Baseball Systems team to advise on the creation of reports and dashboards to responsibly communicate model implications to coaches, players, analysts, and front office decision makers.
• Represent the entire Research & Development Department as a key leadership voice.
• Department Leadership
• Advise the Manager, Sports Science on technical approaches and feasibility of requests from stakeholders in Player Development and Performance teams.
• Engage with Baseball Research Analysts outside of Sports Science to encourage cross-group collaboration and dissemination of techniques and results.
• Drive the adoption of new techniques and encourage increased analytical maturity by leading the Sports Science Journal Club and performing other ad-hoc instruction.
• Collaborate with Baseball Technology, Player Development, and R&D Leadership on identifying gaps in technology approaches and vetting vendors. Use statistical analysis tools to assess the quality of (new) data sources, potentially including wearables, assessments, force plates, on-field tracking, and biomechanics.
Requirement Experience and Education:
• Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, physics, or other quantitative field.
• PhD in Biomechanics, Exercise Science, Physiology, or related field.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Data analyst experience: ability to interpret and analyze statistics.
• Exceptional skills communicating complex statistical concepts.
• Deep understanding of baseball.
• Experience with statistical programs such as R, Python, Matlab, SPSS, Stata.
• Experience with SQL server.
Location: Minneapolis, MN or Fort Myers, FL.
Compensation:
The base salary range for this position is $85,000 to $120,000 annually. Including potential bonus with a target of 14%, the total cash compensation range is estimated to be $96,900 to $136,800 annually.
