Job Description
The Senior Director, Event Operations is a strategic and hands-on leadership position responsible for the overall management and execution of all events held at loanDepot park, home of the Miami Marlins. This role is accountable for ensuring successful delivery of Marlins home games as well as ancillary gameday and non-gameday programming, including sporting events, concerts, conferences, corporate outings, social gatherings, and other private and marquee events. The Senior Director oversees event logistics from initial planning through execution and post-event evaluation, ensuring operational efficiency, client satisfaction, and revenue optimization. This role is pivotal in managing internal teams, coordinating across departments, and collaborating with external partners and vendors to ensure exceptional event experience for guests and stakeholders.
Essential Functions:
• Manage, mentor, and develop high-performing Event Operations and Ballpark Operations teams responsible for successful event logistics coordination, venue conversion, and on-site execution.
• Orchestrate and supervise all operational aspects of gameday and non-gameday events, ensuring exceptional guest and client experiences while maintaining operational efficiency.
• Lead all strategy development and operational management for marquee events such as the 2026 NHL Winter Classic, 2026 World Baseball Classic, and other high-profile events.
• Facilitate the event lifecycle, including but not limited to; conducting site visits, facilitating logistical planning, establishing production timelines, leading pre-event briefings and meetings, and spearheading post-event evaluations and debriefs.
• Act as the primary liaison with clients, promoters, event organizers, sponsors, community partners, governmental agencies, and other internal and external stakeholders for event planning and execution; represent the venue and team professionally.
• Develop, implement, and disseminate detailed operational plans, standard operating procedures, staffing deployments, timelines, and communication documents for each event and activation.
• Conduct pre- and post-event walkthroughs to ensure safety and security guidelines, accessibility, and venue readiness for the highest level of guest experience
• Draft, revise, and publish event schematics and layouts utilizing AutoCAD software
• Alongside the Vice President of Operations and Events, serve as a key point of contact for operational planning and KPI management with third-party service providers including food & beverage, housekeeping, event security, parking and transportation, and retail.
• Source, negotiate, and manage external vendors and suppliers to support event production and venue needs.
• Collaborate with internal departments to ensure event alignment, efficient communication, and successful execution.
• Assist with development of the annual department operating budget, as well as event-specific proformas, cost estimates, revenue projections, and expense tracking.
• Direct internal and external post-event settlement processes, including accurate invoice review, reconciliation, and timely vendor payment.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives and deployment of industry best practices to elevate the event experience.
• Oversee MLB Guest Pass System and facilitation of batting practice and pregame fan experiences during Marlins home games.
• Stay up to date with industry trends and apply innovative approaches to venue and event operations.
• Support special projects, event-specific RFP processes, and team-wide priorities as assigned by the Vice President of Operations and Events.
Qualifications & Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in Event Management, Sports Management, Hospitality, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8–10 years of event operations experience, preferably in a large-scale sports or entertainment venue.
• Proven experience managing and developing large, cross-functional teams and third-party vendor relationships.
• Strong understanding of venue operations, including crowd management, guest experience, and logistical planning.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and event settlement.
• Keen attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Email, Excel, Word, etc.) is a requirement
• Proficiency with AutoCAD (e.g. event schematics and diagrams); program knowledge and the ability to work efficiently and effectively is a requirement
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on a busy schedule of baseball and non-baseball events.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk extensively, as well as occasionally having to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
