This role is considered Hybrid, which means the employee will work 2-3 days onsite at a Company designated location and occasionally from home.
Industrial Light & Magic is looking for a Previs Animator to join our outstanding team. Previs Animators work closely with the Previs Supervisor and VFX Supervisor to craft and build shots and sequences ensuring the Director and Clients vision are met through dynamic camera movement, animation, composition, staging, lighting and editing.
We're looking for artists who love problem solving and get satisfaction from collaborating with other previs artists as one creative unit!
What You'll Do
SHOT & SEQUENCE DESIGN: Deep understanding of shot flow and sequence design. Sensitivity to real world camera techniques.
ANIMATION: Proficient at keyframe animation of humans, creatures, vehicles. Experience with motion capture implementation and manipulation.
LOOK DEVELOPMENT: Capable of generating previs level effects. Basic understanding of lighting and shader techniques.
Comfortable receiving feedback and iterating at a fast pace
Troubleshoot assets and shots, continually looking for and suggesting improvements to increase overall efficiency and productivity
Maintains or exceeds consistent level of productivity while meeting deadlines and producing high quality work
Capable of switching between quality levels of anim from rough blocking & staging to higher polish if and when necessary
Comfortable communicating and collaborating with other departments across ILM
Take initiative to acquire new skills and think outside of the box
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, computer visualization, or computer animation required.
3+ years of demonstrated ability in visual effects and/or feature animation film
Proficiency with Linux and Maya
Advanced problem solving skills
Experience in previs and or animation for live action film, television, or photo-realistic video game cinematics
Strong sense of composition, animation, camera movement and cinematic terminology
A reel demonstrating proficiency in photo-realistic shot design and animation. Reels should preferably exhibit raw previs instead of final film renders, so we can best assess your skills.
Basic knowledge of Unreal, Nuke, and Photoshop.
Experience in modeling, rigging, texturing and lighting

The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$84,100 to C$107,700 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other variable pay or benefits, may be offered dependent on the level and position offered.
