Position Summary
ILM Vancouver is growing, and we are looking for an outstanding artist to join our DMS (Digital Model Shop) team. The Hard Surface Modeler places an emphasis on proportion, form, detail, and functionality, crafting three dimensional assets for production use.

What You'll Do
Design and create 3D assets including vehicles, robots, spaceships, props and environments that are to be painted, animated and used in a production, with an emphasis on proportion, form, detail, and functionality
Collaborate with the Modeling Lead/Supervisor, VFX Supervisor, and Texture Artist to identify and build the ''look'' for an asset
Work with production and model leadership or CG supervisor to deliver high quality assets on time that meet all departments needs
Build geometry with an understanding of how the asset will be used in the entire production process and adapt working approach to suit the specific asset needs
Present you work in dailies and discuss all aspects of your asset as needed
Performs other tasks where suitable such as shot correctives, gathering reference or building more simple character asset elements like props and costumes
What We're Looking For
Portfolio demonstrating strong and growing hard surface skills, displaying a strong understanding of design, movement and mechanical functionality
Portfolio demonstrating traditional artistic skills such as drawing or traditional model building is a plus
3+ years proven experience crafting assets in a VFX studio environment. Additional animation experience is a plus
A strong interest and growing knowledge of film and video post production techniques and a good understanding of the full VFX pipeline
3+ years Maya and Zbrush or Mudbox experience and demonstration of a desire to continuously develop both technically and artistically
Use of Houdini or other procedural modelling techniques is a bonus
Knowledge of Linux is a necessity to navigate through ILM's production pipeline

The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$85,900.00 to C$109,900.00 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other variable pay or benefits, may be offered dependent on the level and position offered.
