THE TEAM

Core Data Services team is at the center of Data and Analytics initiative. We are in the beginning of our journey to build and enterprise data platform capable to be a true underpinning of any data needs for the enterprise. Our mission is to make reliable data available and enable value creation by the data community of engineers, analysts and decision makers. Core Data Services team consists of Platform engineering team, Data Engineering, Data Enablement and ultimate owner and operator – Operations team.

As part of the Core Data Services team, the Operations Analysts leads the day today tasked with full ownership and management of the Customer issues posted as data quality and data investigation.

We are looking for a seasoned professional who has experience owning and operating large scale systems at enterprise level, continuously improving operational metrics. In other words, running a center of excellence with stability and discipline practices as a bedrock of continuous innovation.

THE ROLE

The Cloud Engineer will be working as part of the Data and Insights team, focusing on the management and administration of SQL Server databases and our AWS Cloud environment.

In this hands-on role, you will have ownership and be responsible for the design, build, commissioning and running of new and existing database environments and platforms to project timelines and company standards, providing clear communications with respect to progress, blockers and issues to mitigate risk.

You will continuously deliver and support changes to the Ticketmaster business applications across production and all non-production environments. You will work with Data Engineering teams from the point of initial engagement, through proof of concept and through to the implementation of each project.

The role is fundamental in supporting the company's strategy of deploying market leading B2B and B2C data driven tools using the latest technology, including Big Data platforms and Databricks.

You will be exposed to multiple technologies and various levels of AWS experience within the engineering teams and be required to tailor your approach accordingly. Our business is online 24/7, so you will occasionally be required to work out of hours or provide on-call duty on a rotation basis.

WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO
• Troubleshooting of database and infrastructure issues on services you provide
• Manage capacity and availability to ensure resilience and cost effectiveness
• Provide input into the design, development and implementation of automation and tooling for data engineering teams to achieve their goals.
• Work closely with peers in data engineering teams to implement solutions that are scalable, secure, and easily maintained.
• Disaster Recovery planning, testing and execution in combination with engineering teams
• Design, implement and run resilient highly available solutions
• Implement monitoring, health check scripts, functional and load testing
• Use modern 'infrastructure as code' and orchestration tools to reduce manual operations where practically possible
• Plan, organize and communicate project status
• Share knowledge and skills with other team members

WHAT THIS PERSON WILL BRING (TECHNICAL SKILLS/COMPETENCIES)
• Excellent knowledge of Public Cloud technology – we use AWS with RDS, S3, ES, API Gateway, Redshift, Lambda, SQS & EC2 being the core services we depend on.
• Excellent knowledge of Database Technologies & Architectures
• DBA expertise supporting large scale databases such as SQL Server, Redshift or PostgreSQL; preferably data warehouses
• AWS certified Engineer or equivalent commercial experience
• Some experience developing scalable and resilient APIs, systems and services for cloud platforms
• Strong understanding of techniques and strategies for maintaining high availability
• Strong experience in automated deployment of infrastructure and applications
• Strong scripting/programming skills in at least one language such as Python and PowerShell
• Experienced in collaborative development – performing code reviews and automating via deployment pipelines, such as Jenkins, Gitlab CI or AWS CodePipeline
• Excellent Windows & Linux systems knowledge and great application troubleshooting skills
• Good networking skills; route tables, Firewalls & understanding load balancing technologies
• Good knowledge of log, monitoring and alerting platforms such as AWS CloudWatch, Spotlight, ELK, Prometheus
• Good understanding of Security and Compliance challenges and how to reduce scope and increase protection – we deal with PCI, SOX and GDPR on some of our systems
• Technical writing skills for documenting environments and procedures
• Self-motivated, energetic, and tenacious.
• Able to work as part of a team as well as independently.
• Strong organizational skills and time management.
• A desire to learn and use a broad range of skills in a highly complex environment.
• Excellent analytical, problem solving and resolution skills.
