Job Summary/Description:
WCH/KSCW is currently looking for a journalist who loves and thrives during live TV and morning shows! You must be able to handle breaking news and weather like a pro and have the ability to enterprise a lead on a slow news day. You'll be working with the best and largest morning show team in the state.
The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:
• Lead story reporter for the morning show; ability to do active live shots with multiple hits and various story angles.
• Can quickly switch gears if necessary - from a planned story to covering breaking news.
• Ability to cover breaking and nuisance weather.
• Can constructively work with a photographer to coordinate active live shots.
• Must be able to shoot and edit as part of your day will be solo gathering for next day content.
• Excellent communication skills - for the viewers and within the news team.
• Ability to brainstorm and execute a coverage plan (back to school, special events, etc.)
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Gather and deliver news and information in the most accurate, appealing, urgent and creative way.
• Skilled live reporting is a must as this position requires multiple live hits throughout the morning.
• Demonstrate sound news judgment and the ability to tell stories in a clear, informative manner
• Extensive knowledge of social media and how to use it to engage viewers and find new stories.
• Enterprise news stories under tight deadlines, develop and maintain sources.
• Leadership behind-the-scenes, with a history of creating a positive work environment together with your entire team.
• Develop, investigate, write, report, and edit stories for newscasts.
• Attendance at editorial meetings, participation in story selection process and contribute story ideas.
• Write, edit, and post website stories prior to airing of the television version, update web stories regularly.
• Must be a visual storyteller and have the ability to come up with creative, active live shots and stand-ups and ways to explain a story.
• Must be able to shoot, write and edit stories.
• Coaching, feedback, and training are all part of the job.
