KRCR is seeking an energetic, aggressive, and creative Assignment Editor to join the #1 news team in Redding, CA! The ideal candidate would help generate story ideas, react decisively to breaking news, and handle basic newsgathering functions.. Candidates must have strong logistical skills and the ability to move crews strategically. We need someone with strong communication skills who can coordinate coverage and problem-solve unforeseen obstacles. This person must be able to perform calmly and communicate effectively under pressure.
Skills and Experience:
• Assign and track news crews
• Identify, research and develop daily content
• Write and post content to station website and social media sites
• Compelling and accurate writing
• Listen to scanners and react to breaking news, make beat checks, monitor web sites and social media
• Develop and maintain contacts and sources to enterprise story ideas
• Maintain efficient operations of the assignment desk
Requirements and Qualifications:
• Minimum of 1 year of newsroom experience desired, college experience accepted
• Commitment to journalistic standards of ethics and accuracy
• Ability to communicate effectively, work well under pressure and meet deadlines
• Computer knowledge/word processing skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office products
• General knowledge and interest in local, national, and world news
• Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Experience in research, public records requests, etc. is a plus
The base hourly compensation range for this role is $18.00 to $20.00 per hour. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidates' relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. Full time positions are eligible for benefits that include participation in a retirement plan, life and disability insurance, health, dental and vision plans, flexible spending accounts, sick leave, vacation time, personal time, parental leave and employee stock purchase plan.
