Job Summary/Description:
KKTV is searching for a meteorologist to join our 11 Breaking Weather Team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering accurate and compelling weather forecasts to our community in Southern Colorado, with comprehensive weather coverage for our newscasts, streaming updates, digital and social content, and breaking weather coverage.
Duties/Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to) the following:
- Produce a high-quality and accurate weather forecast for weekday newscasts with an emphasis on state-of-the-art computer graphics for air presentation.
- Effectively tell the weather story of the day and understand that weather is an integral part of the overall newscast, weather, and traffic mobile app, social media, and online at KKTV.com.
- Passion for breaking weather and willingness to work alternate hours if need be for severe weather coverage.
- Ability to apply meteorological knowledge to enhance traffic segments on and off air.
- Fill in on alternate newscasts as assigned and assist the Chief Meteorologist in Breaking Weather/Severe Weather situations.
- Public appearances as a station representative maintaining a professional image both on air and off.
- Provide useful information via all social media platforms.
- Employee is held accountable for all duties of the position including generating content for KKTV.com.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Degree or certificate in meteorology or related science
- Seal of approval from AMS or NWA preferred
- Proven track record of analyzing and covering severe weather, delivering daily forecasts, and understanding the demands of a TV newsroom
- Must work well under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to represent the station professionally in the community and newsroom
- Valid driver's license and excellent driving record
