KIAH-TV CW39 Houston is seeking an innovative and driven News Director to lead our morning and daytime programming. As the home of No Wait Weather and Traffic and H-Town Live, we are committed to providing content that not only informs but also benefits our viewers by delivering valuable and engaging local news, weather, and traffic coverage. The ideal candidate will have a passion for creative storytelling, with a focus on enhancing viewer experience and maximizing viewer value through dynamic, community-focused programming.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage all aspects of CW39's morning news programming, including content development for No Wait Weather and Traffic, ensuring timely, accurate, and engaging weather and traffic reports.
• Ensure all content delivers clear viewer benefits, focusing on information that helps our audience navigate their daily lives and stay informed about issues affecting the Houston community.
• Develop innovative strategies to increase viewer engagement, emphasizing content that resonates with the diverse Houston DMA and aligns with CW39's mission to connect, inform, and entertain.
• Collaborate closely with meteorologists and traffic reporters to ensure high-quality, viewer-centric weather and traffic segments that enhance the overall show experience.
• Oversee the production of creative, fresh segments that provide unique insights, entertainment, and useful information to viewers.
• Manage content across all platforms (broadcast, digital, and social), ensuring consistency and engagement that meets the needs of both traditional viewers and digital audiences.
• Foster a culture of creativity and collaboration within the newsroom, empowering producers, reporters, and content creators to deliver value-driven content.
• Analyze viewer feedback and ratings to make data-driven decisions that improve viewer benefit and grow audiences across platforms.
• Work closely with the promotions and marketing teams to develop strategies that highlight the value of CW39's morning shows and attract new viewers.
• Provide mentorship, feedback, and coaching to content teams to promote growth and maintain a high standard of creative and editorial excellence.
• Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) and the ability to produce unique Spanish-language news, specials, and digital content are preferred.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in television content creation, with at least 2 years in a leadership role focused on news or morning programming.
• Strong background in managing weather and traffic content, with an understanding of its importance to morning viewers.
• Proven ability to lead creative teams, inspiring innovative storytelling that enhances viewer experience and value.
• Excellent communication skills, with experience mentoring and developing newsroom staff.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with strong organizational skills.
• Proficiency with digital tools, social media strategy, and audience analytics.
• Passion for serving the diverse Houston community, with a focus on delivering content that makes a real difference to viewers' daily lives.
