The TEGNA-owned ABC affiliate in Des Moines, Iowa, is searching for an exceptional Meteorologist to lead our morning and midday weathercasts on Good Morning Iowa and Local 5 Midday. At Local 5, weather reporting isn't just a job-it's a calling. Our ''Most Accurate'' weather team has been WeatherRate certified for 18 consecutive years, and we're looking for a passionate meteorologist who can shine both during intense storm systems and on calm weather days.

Your mission will be to keep Central Iowa safe and informed, tracking everything from tornadoes and blizzards to heat waves and flooding. This isn't just about predicting the weather-it's about telling powerful stories that help our community prepare and stay resilient.

Responsibilities:
• Deliver accurate, engaging weather forecasts across multiple platforms
• Create visually compelling graphics that make weather data accessible and interesting
• Maintain a reliable morning and midday schedule, with the flexibility to pivot quickly during severe weather events
• Provide live severe weather updates, including breaking into regular programming when necessary
• Demonstrate strong on-camera presence with confident live reporting and natural ad-lib skills
• Represent the station at community events and public appearances
• Develop original weather stories for broadcast, digital platforms, and streaming
• Build a network of local contacts to enhance weather reporting and storytelling

Requirements:
• Bachelor of Science in Meteorology
• 1-3 years experience, with at least 2 years of on-air reporting preferred
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills
• Proficiency with the latest weather technologies and multi-platform reporting
• Proven ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, collaborative attitude
• Active social media engagement
• Knowledge of WSI software (preferred)

Work Details:

Work Environment: Primarily office-based

Physical Demands: Light work involving sitting, walking, occasional lifting

Travel: Minimal (less than 10%)
