Job Description
IndieWire is seeking a self-starting, entrepreneurial, detail-obsessed Weekend Editor. This is a sleeves-up role in which you find your own news stories, frame them for the IndieWire audience, write them, put them on the homepage, and promote them on social media. On your weekdays, you'll also look beyond news and contribute features, essays, and interviews and serve as a go-to editor. This is a high-volume role with terrific potential for growth. With a Thursday-to-Monday workweek, this position will report to the Staff Editor.
Responsibilities
• Write breaking news and aggregation news items on Saturdays and Sundays.
• Serve as a staff editor on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and for stories that run on weekends.
• Contribute features and original stories on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
• Curate the homepage on weekends and on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays after 2:00pm PT.
• Promote stories on IndieWire's social media channels on the weekend.
• Contribute prewrites for awards shows and other events.
• Be available for sponsored content writeups as needed for IndieWire's live events, Sundance, and more.
Requirements
• 2-3 years of entertainment journalism experience.
• A profound understanding of the IndieWire brand, what constitutes ''an IndieWire story,'' and knowledge of the film and TV landscape
• A willingness to take ownership of one's own traffic success and the entrepreneurial mindset to achieve that success.
• Demonstrated ability to juggle many projects and pivot at a moment's notice.
• Ability to work outside of typical work hours on occasion, such as writeups of IndieWire events on weekends (with comp days given as considered reasonable).
• A demonstrated understanding that quality is as important as speed.
As PMC values in-person collaboration and team cohesion, employees work onsite 4 days a week and 1 day remotely with a focus on maintaining a vibrant and inclusive culture.
Typical wage range: $69k. Factors that could be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, years of experience and comparison to current employees already in this role. The typical candidate is hired below midpoint of the range.
The total compensation package for this position will also include other elements, a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits including 401(k) eligibility and paid time off benefits. PMC is committed to the health and wellness of our employees.
