Hearst Television is looking for a Manager of AI Newsroom Integration. The person in this role will work closely with editorial and executive leadership on strategies that enhance our newsrooms' coverage of local communities and transform the workflow of our journalists and newsroom operations, minimizing time-consuming tasks so our teams can increase their focus on newsgathering and content production.
This person will work directly with our newsrooms to implement AI initiatives and train our staffs on how to use advanced tools that allow for quicker and more efficient newsgathering and production. They will also work with leadership to develop policies and guidance on how to use AI ethically and responsibly.
The Ideal candidate will have a background in journalism, experience working in a newsroom setting, and have previously worked with AI platforms to develop newsroom solutions.
This is a full-time in-person job based in one of our Hearst Television markets or at our corporate offices in Washington, DC or New York City.
Job Responsibilities:
• Design, develop and optimize AI prompts for custom GPT models that will save time and effort in the newsgathering process.
• Work with developers and engineers to build, iterate and implement AI initiatives in our newsrooms.
• Provide training and support for Hearst TV journalists on how to properly use AI tools and to vet outputs for accuracy.
• Monitor and evaluate the performance of deployed GPT models; measure outcomes from those initiatives to iterate and achieve success.
• Track record of generative AI development, including but not limited to creation of chatbots, extraction of structured data from unstructured sources, implementation of generative AI to existing workflows, etc.
Required Skills:
• Must have experience working with programs like Chat GPT and understand how to write prompts to reach desired outcomes.
• Experience with creating tools for journalists that improve their workflow and eliminate roadblocks.
• Leadership and coaching skills with a collaborative style of communication.
• Ability to self-manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.
• A high-level understanding of what large language models can do - and their limitations. You don't need to be a computer scientist.
• Minimum 2-3 years of experience in Python, with familiarity in using programs like Jupyter notebooks, NumPy, Pandas, etc...
• At least 1-2 years of hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• General knowledge of Github, Docker, Databases
• Nice to Have: Experience working in Langchain, HTML, Javascript
Salary Statement
The estimated base salary range for this role is between $125,000 and $140,000. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as transferable skills, work experience, business needs, market demands and conditions, including geographic location where the work will be performed, and other factors permitted by law. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
