Job Description
Hearst Television is seeking an aggressive, creative, talented investigative photojournalist/editor to join its award-winning National Investigative Unit based at the Hearst Washington Bureau. The National Investigative Unit develops original, unique, ambitious, enterprise, in-depth content that brings national news of relevance to our local markets across the country. Since 2018, the Unit has broken stories about the FBI, DNI, FAA, FDA, DHS, EAC, and on many topics ranging from election security to drone defense to combating hate crimes, vaping, and more.

Candidates for this investigative photojournalist position should be: tech savvy; able to shoot on Sony XD Cam, GoPro, iPhone, and edit in Adobe Premiere; excellent at editing skills; exceptional with time-management abilities; effective with communication and organization; with an eye for engaging, and national-level video, sound, and lighting; and excited by new storytelling methods and platforms. We are looking for a visual storyteller committed to compelling sequences, deliberate lighting, vivid video, and riveting natural sound.

Job Responsibilities:
• Shoot and edit national-level investigative video journalism, with an emphasis on conceiving unique, visual content to illustrate information, data, and documents in a creative and engaging way.
• Shooting and editing of VOs, VO-SOTs and packages for Broadcast Air and On-line postings; some content also distributed to other Hearst divisions.
• Working with Producers and Investigative Correspondents to cover daily, enterprise, and deep-dive stories.
• Responsible for technical set-up and shooting of live remotes.
• Working with correspondents and producers to ensure the best content and facts are gathered, while taking the initiative to contribute editorially, in story pitch meetings and the script drafting process.
• Communicating and coordinating incoming video elements from various sources.
• Can work with catalog systems to record and locate necessary video.

Experience Requirements:
• Must have computer and software experience with modern journalistic tools.
• Previous newsroom experience, at a national level strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability with long-form production techniques.
• Related military experience will be considered.

Qualifications Requirements:
• Can easily carry up to 50 pounds of equipment
• Can work in all weather conditions
• Can operate large vehicles, must have a valid driver's license and a near-perfect driving record
• Exceptional ability to operate modern photography equipment and digital editing tools
• Can organize and prioritize multiple projects at once.
• Must be a self-starter - someone who doesn't wait to be told what to do and can work well with others.
• Ability to work under pressure, making quick decisions

• Related experience and/or training considered as well as a combination of education and experience.
