Job Description

General Function:
To provide operations oversight and quality control throughout the production process of each issue interfacing with magazine production/art departments, Hearst advertising, Pubworx and Quad
Operational Responsibilities (28 hours per month equivalent to 4 full days):
• Review final issue maps, manufacturing instructions, split/insert reports, critical ad lists, and editorial notes.
• Participate in virtual meetings with the PWX Production Team, Quad Ink on Paper, and Customer Account Management Teams prior to each issue's production.
• Evaluate all aspects of special units being produced at Quad, including specifications, paper stock, color notes, folding instructions, coatings, and more.

Quality Control Responsibilities (42 hours per month equivalent to 6 full days):
• Be present at the press for all forms and special units of each issue.
• Verify page order accuracy by cross-referencing each form with the corresponding pages on the graphic view map provided by PWX Production.
• Collaborate with Quad Ink on Paper Team to ensure optimal color balance across all forms. In cases of necessary in-line compromises, prioritize ad pages.
• Inspect gatefolds and other special units to ensure proper folding and correct pagination by comparing to video and other instructions provided by PWX Production.
• Confirm that the appropriate PMS colors and cover coatings are being applied for the covers, following cover notes and working closely with the Quad IOP Team.
• Be present in the bindery during the initial setup to verify the correct order of components, comparing them with the graphic view map.
• Inspect binding quality, ensuring proper glue application and that no pages are falling out.
• Conduct spot checks on comp and sample (office) copies during the binding process to ensure they meet the highest quality standards.

This position requires a detail-oriented individual capable of managing both operational and quality assurance responsibilities to ensure each issue meets production standards.
