Job Description
Harper's Bazaar seeks a Creative Director to help shape, sharpen, and steer the brand's creative and visual identity across the website, print, social platforms, and special projects, all executed at the pace demanded by a growing brand. This is a job for someone excited to push the content forward while honoring the brand's legacy. Projects will range from designing the cover, fashion features, and editorial features to multi-faceted digital packages, as well as overseeing all brand design, from social media to videos, to keep it cohesive. The ideal candidate is a big-picture thinker who can also thrive in the everyday, utilizing excellent management, design expertise, and organizational skills to execute large and small design projects on tight deadlines.
Resonsibilities:
• Oversee all design for the brand including digital, print, video, social, partnerships, licensing, and more as needs evolve
• Work closely with the design, visual, and editorial teams to up-level the brand, ensuring that all design projects are completed at highest quality and within budget
• Collaborate closely with the editorial and photo teams to brainstorm layout concepts for stories, features, and packages, including photos, infographics, motion, and video
• Oversee the art department, managing projects to meet tight deadlines
• Manage the art team's workload effectively through delegation
• Work with the visual team on cover concepts, art-direct cover shoots, and design and produce the cover
• Provide strategy and direction to strengthen the brand
• Understand the aesthetic and editorial style and tone of the brand and have a willingness to push it creatively
Qualifications:
• 15+ years of post-grad digital and print editorial design experience at a consumer brand, with outstanding design and typographic skills
• Experience overseeing a consumer editorial brand and leading a design team
• Expertise in print and digital design, including cover creation, plus experience working with UX design teams
• Experience art-directing photo shoots, including covers
• Expert knowledge of InDesign, Woodwing, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, plus UI design principles and design tools
• Working relationships with top photographers
• Highly developed organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• A true team-player, kind and open-minded; you know when to assert your expertise and when to let your colleagues shine
• Bachelor's degree in graphic design or other relevant area
