JOB DESCRIPTION

The Assignment Desk Editor is responsible for supporting daily newsgathering efforts on behalf of multiple FOX Sports platforms. This position supports FOX Sports' coverage as a whole by acquiring video, booking feeds, hiring remote trucks & ENG crews, and clipping and uploading footage for FOX affiliates. Duties extend to clearly communicating with contacts inside FOX and FOX Sports, including producers, and also outside media outlets and vendors. The Editor must stay on top of the sports news of the day and continually acquire video content, check and build the daily record Sat Sheet list, effort clearance of media from non-FOX entities and cut video clips for use in production.

SNAPSHOT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
• Newsgathering for all FOX Sports programming; including reacting to breaking news and requests in a rapid timeframe
• Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of and ability to independently arrange transmission (including satellite, fiber, bonded-cellular, IP-based)
• Coordinates with FOX News Edge and local FOX affiliates on daily sports news stories including trading of media availabilities, practice and game b-roll, newsy footage, scenics and bump shots
• Oversees acquisition of video and proper clearance of media from non-FOX entities via social media or licensing
• Monitors video feeds, sets up live event records and confirms material is going into our system
• Books freelance ENG camera crews, insert studios and homecams for a wide variety of studio shows, marquee events, live shots, watch parties and team-coverage, among other things
• Tracks and assigns bonded-cell transmission equipment
• Clearly communicates with co-workers, producers, outside vendors and other departments within FOX Sports and works excellently in team-based workflows
• Maintains our strong and fully developed relationships to facilitate our future needs
• Assists in event planning and major projects as assigned by senior staff Understands potential legal issues in clearing content, decisions on approving content and
• watches out for any unapproved materials on air
• Prevents misuse of non-FOX owned content

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• 3+ years of editorial experience
• Superior knowledge of sports, FOX Sports programming and talent and FOX Sports properties
• Strong computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills – the ability to prioritize projects under tight deadlines
• Critical thinking skills – the ability to judge if a story is newsworthy, if sources need to be checked/wording is appropriate, if there is a risk to releasing certain information, and to verify accuracy and consistency of information
• Proven sports knowledge that lends itself to sound news judgment

NICE TO HAVE BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER
• BS/BA in Journalism, Communications or a related degree
• Experience as an assignment editor in a newsroom environment
• Some knowledge of FTP and transmissions
