FOX Weather is a 24/7 ad-supported streaming service operated by FOX News Media. Launched in October 2021, the platform builds upon FOX News Channel's expansive newsgathering units & FOX Television Stations' added resources with a combined 120 meteorologists for a comprehensive suite of weather products featuring local, regional and national reporting, in addition to live programming. Utilizing multiple radar systems, including an immersive mobile 3D radar, and more than 100,000 HD cameras located around the country, the service offers users an innovative approach to forecasting, including coverage surrounding all weather patterns, from immediate to long-term. FOX Weather is available via foxweather.com, the FOX Weather app on IOS and Android devices, as well as Tubi, Apple TV, Amazon, and Roku, through FOX's Connected TV Apps.

JOB DESCRIPTION

FOX Weather is looking for a Senior Assignment Editor to join the team in NY! The Senior Assignment Editor is responsible for coordinating all logistical and editorial assignments for on-camera meteorologists, reporters, and ENG photographers in the field. The core duties include executing the editorial plan, determining story assignments for the field teams, and managing logistics for coverage of significant weather stories and events. Additionally, the Senior Assignment Editor will approve scripts and live reporting content, assist with newsgathering, and collaborate with other FOX News Media platforms.

The Senior Assignment Editor is a lead-by-example employee and must have a solid understanding of sourcing, fact-checking, and vetting editorial information. You are organized, motivated, and inquisitive with strong logistical and editorial skills and a passion for covering weather. You must be proactive, work well with others, and need limited guidance in communicating and guiding the field reporters.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide direction to the entire assignment desk during breaking and developing coverage
• Work with newsroom managers and producers in planning and adjusting coverage as news breaks
• Pitch ideas to enhance the efficiency and functionality of newsroom operations
• Monitor editorial accuracy and sourcing of our news reporting
• Prepare detailed coverage outlines in advance of significant events, establish effective control room communication procedures, and distribute information to field, show, and network personnel
• Organize and develop creative plans to maximize limited resources
• Coordinate with reporters, technical crews, and the satellite desk to ensure that incoming feeds from weather sources are given priority to secure the most comprehensive coverage

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
• A Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field of study preferred, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of experience in a local or national newsroom
• Familiarity with field production and weather coverage and a demonstrated understanding of gathering live weather news across the US
• Proven capability in assuming a leadership position and making critical decisions
• Proficiency in sourcing, fact-checking, and vetting editorial content
• Strong logistical and editorial skills
• Self-motivation with the capacity to work both independently and as a team player
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and prioritize daily, and especially in breaking news situations

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is: $84,500.00-95,000.00 annually for New York City and Westchester County, NY. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
