WDAF-TV / Fox4 in Kansas City, MO is looking for an Assignments Editor.
This position drives content in our newsroom – finding stories for our television and digital platforms. The assignment editor is responsible for knowing what is making news daily in the Kansas City television market and making sure that news is covered. They actively participate in editorial meetings presenting story ideas and developing coverage plans.
JOB SUMMARY:
• • Tracks stories from all sources, including community and government.
• Use social media and digital tools, as well as traditional methods, to research, discover and flush out new content/story ideas.
• Write digital content for our website and social media.
• Set up stories and interviews for newscasts and/or digital platforms
• Conduct daily beat checks including court records and government agendas.
• Listen to viewer concerns, alerting management to relevant ones. When possible, try to resolve or address complaints in a positive way.
• Coordinate logistics for the newsroom.
• Maintain the daybook and make sure all information is current.
Requirements & Skills:
• • Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
• Fluency in English
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Minimum two-years experience in news operations.
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Flexibility to work any shift
