Job Description
FOX21 News seeks a full-time weekday evening meteorologist to lead our Storm Team weather coverage during
our 5pm, 6:30pm, 9:00pm and 10pm newscasts. This is your chance to join a high-performing weather team in a challenging weather market. Our population center lives on the side of Pikes Peak, a 14,115' weather generating machine. It's ''fun'' to forecast and communicate as we get rain, snow, high wind, thunderstorms and hail – sometimes all in the same day!

We are looking for a talented broadcaster that possesses the deep meteorology and on-camera presentation skill set to deliver a dynamic, personality-driven weathercast in a very conversational style. We don't' read numbers from maps - we tell great weather stories in an engaging style and deep commitment to a focus on how our graphics and stories are received by our viewers. As a complement to our chief meteorologist who anchors our morning newscast, our ideal candidate will be a leader in our newsroom to help direct our resource allocation and planning for coverage of severe weather in the summer and high-impact winter storms.
• Produces and presents weather reports for all platforms.
• Ensures that all weather content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
• Writes and delivers weather stories in a clear and concise manner.
• Assists in writing, copy editing, researching and coordinating weather programming and other content.
• Responds to breaking and/or severe weather events and other urgent newsrooms situations as required.
• Works closely with the weather team to develop comprehensive weather coverage.
• Participates in promotional activities including public appearances.
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Writes web stories detailing the local forecast on a daily basis.
• Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites.

Requirements & Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
• Fluency in English.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
• Minimum five years' experience in weather reporting or anchoring. (More or less depending on market size.)
• Superior on-air presence.
• Experience guiding, directing and motivating others.
• Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
• Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
• Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
• Strong understanding of the field of meteorology and a proven track record of forecasting.
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
• Flexibility to work any shift.
• Four to five years on-air as a meteorologist is required for this position. Knowledge of The Weather Company's Tru-Vu MAX is a plus and an AMS and or NWA seal is preferred. A college degree in meteorology or related major is also preferred. Strong and effective social media skills and approaches are certainly required.
