What You'll Do
We're looking for a generalist who is excited to collaborate across disciplines to build best-in-class workflows for the Unreal Editor. As a programmer on the Editor Workflow Systems team, you will be at the forefront of helping shape the editor and workflows for Scene Graph and Verse over the coming years, with a focus on improving core editor systems to support Unreal's object model as it expands into the Metaverse. Additionally, as a central tech team within the Unreal Engine ecosystem, your work will directly impact all Epic first-party development - including Fortnite - and reach millions of customers everywhere the Unreal Editor is used.
In this role, you will
• Design, implement, and improve APIs and foundational systems within the editor that enable others to build their tools quickly and efficiently for the Unreal Editor
• Analyze and fix problems in the Unreal Editor to improve the codebase
• Design and build editor systems to support Unreal and Scene Graph object models
• Work with stakeholders in all disciplines (i.e. engineers, tech artists, and designers) to identify areas for improvements, gather feedback, design, and implement solutions for customers' needs in the Unreal Editor
• Support external customers by answering their technical requests and questions
• Work collaboratively across many of Epic's internal teams to improve foundational editor systems that others use to build workflows within the editor
What we're looking for
• Excellent C++ skills
• Experience developing in a large codebase
• Experience with at least one object model (i.e. UObjects, ECS concepts, etc) and serialization
• Experience developing APIs or foundational systems that improve iteration and performance, and reduce development time in game development or other 3D simulation programs
• Ability to collaborate and communicate cross-discipline, from content creators to engineers, from UX designers to QA analysts
• A passion for improving the customer experience beyond code. Some examples of your passion may be - participating in UX design, developing automated tests, or adding profiling and analytics to monitor user behaviors
• Someone who is customer-focused, solutions-focused, and innovative. These traits equal success at Epic and influence everything we do
