What You'll Do

Epic Games is looking for a Senior Programmer Writer to work with the Engine Operations team. This team is responsible for the support and maintenance of the build system's stream topology and core tools that Epic developers use every day. The team helps set the direction for best practices in software development processes across the teams which contribute to Unreal Engine. The team needs skilled Programmer Writers to help drive significant improvements to the development cycle of Unreal Engine with an impact that reaches every experience and product we ship. In this role, you will
• Develop, maintain, and document example code projects and command line scripting to demonstrate development tooling and processes
• Define and refine example code styling and development processes in partnership with other Epic teams responsible for developer-facing materials to ensure best practices, consistency, and clarity
• Create, edit, and maintain high-quality development tools documentation and instructional content for users
• Fix outdated documentation as the technology changes
• Work closely with our team of programmer writers, subject matter experts in programming, design, product management, and professionals in related disciplines like Developer Relations, QA, and more
• Draft communications to highlight important news, updates, and alerts for users to get them excited about new features and apprised of important updates
• Help improve the workflows and end-user experience

What we're looking for
• Bachelor's degree (computer science, mathematics, or programming preferred) or equivalent work experience
• Strong programming skills and knowledge of software programming principles
• Technical writing and code documentation skills
• Experience with programming languages like C++
• Experience with command line tools and scripting
• Experience with using version control software like Perforce
• Experience writing, proofreading, and editing user and developer facing documentation
• Experience with web-based content creation tools and authoring tools, such as HTML, CSS, XML, Adobe Photoshop, or Illustrator
• Experience meeting multiple deadlines
• Familiarity with Unreal Engine or an existing game engine or real-time simulation
