What You'll Do

We are looking for a Senior Gameplay Programmer (3Cs) passionate about broadening the capabilities of character traversal mechanics in Fortnite. You will be working with others to build the future of how characters interact with various engine systems while moving about the world. As a member of the Character Movement team, you'll be responsible for architecting new character core mechanics, supporting seasonal development when it comes to character movement systems, and being a person of contact for troubleshooting various issues in character behavior.

In this role, you will
• Collaborate with others to design, develop, and maintain functionality of custom movement system within Fortnite
• Improve and enhance how Character Movement interacts with other engine systems; such as AI, Animation, Networking, and Gameplay
• Contribute in solving challenging network problems related to movement and character interactions
• Improve existing systems to be more performant, scalable, and stable
• Build and maintain bridges with other teams within the Fortnite ecosystem
• Diagnose CPU and network performance issues to improve Fortnite stability and scalability when it comes to Character Mechanics
• Look for ways to push the technology forward in new and innovative ways to be adopted by other teams within Epic

What we're looking for
• Strong C++ skills and programming principles knowledge
• Solid experience with Unreal Engine, 5+ years, preferably working with 3C in multiplayer games field
• Strong understanding of networked game principles and how they apply towards character movement
• Adjacent experience in one or more of the following areas: AI, input, animation, or physics
• Desire to support multiple teams and disciplines in troubleshooting and expanding character movement tech via continuous collaboration
• Experience developing AAA games or game engine technology professionally
• Self-motivated, strong work ethic, and able to work independently
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate fluently in English (written and verbal)

This role is open to multiple locations across North America and Europe (including CA, NYC, & WA).

Pay Transparency Information

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Each base pay range is relevant only for individuals who are residents of or will be expected to work within the specified locale. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren't limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Epic's generous benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).

New York City Base Pay Range

$172,736 — $253,347 USD

California Base Pay Range

$190,010 — $278,682 USD

Washington Base Pay Range

$181,373 — $266,014 USD
