Job Description
ENGINEERING - UNREAL ENGINE
What We Do
Unreal-powered projects have been on the bleeding edge of real-time entertainment for over 20 years. Our team of engineering experts are always innovating to improve the tools and technology that empower content developers worldwide.
What You'll Do
Epic Games is searching for an experienced Senior Cloud Engineer to join our Foundation Data Pipelines team. In this role, you'll develop and own geo-replicated cloud systems running all over the world that are essential for Unreal Engine users to ship their games. This involves moving large volumes of data around and in highly available systems. The ideal candidate will have a passion for practical problem solving and an affinity for improving the day-to-day workflow of other developers. We think you subscribe to ''You build it, you run it'' and feel comfortable jumping between development, operational and support work as needed.
In this role, you will
• Build out and operate cloud infrastructure for high efficiency storage and replication of game and editor data
• Optimize iteration times, and improve existing systems for performance, memory usage, and user experience
• Develop custom tools and pipelines for other engineers and content creators
• Work with large complex code base and understand and resolve performance issues
• Establish test workflows to validate performance improvements and prevent regressions
• Support external North American customers by answering their technical requests and questions
What we're looking for
• Proficiency with a major cloud provider, AWS preferred
• Excellent knowledge in a backend language like C# or Java (C# and C++ experience preferred)
• Experience with technologies for geo-distribution and consistency
• Experience working with high performance low latency systems
• Demonstrated ability to reason about large, interacting systems from the macro-level to the micro-level
• Experience profiling and optimizing a large codebase
• Comfortable writing multithreaded code and reasoning about dependency graphs and content pipeline for large games
• This role will be supporting North American customers, hence the ability to work across North American time zones is required
