Epic Games is seeking an exceptionally talented and visionary Principal Environment Artist to lead the creation of breathtaking environments and props for our game. In this role, you will not only showcase your advanced artistic ability but also drive the creative direction and technical execution of our environment art. You will be expected to have a deep understanding of form, function, and detail while possessing the technical prowess to bring your vision to life in Unreal Engine. You will lead the development of both organic and hard surface assets, guiding the team in best practices and innovative techniques.
In this role, you will
• Lead and Innovate: Own complex projects that require alignment across multiple teams, setting a high standard for quality and creativity in environment art
• Mentor and Inspire: Actively mentor junior and mid-level artists, fostering their growth while encouraging collaboration and skill development across the team
• Develop Advanced Techniques: Apply your expert-level proficiency in relevant software (3DS Max, Maya, Photoshop, Zbrush, Substance) to not only complete your own projects but also improve workflows and processes within the team
• Solve Complex Challenges: Address unique challenges that impact the entire product, finding creative solutions and making independent decisions that enhance project outcomes
• Elevate Art Quality: Exhibit exceptional color theory and technical expertise in organic layout, lighting, scene composition
• Create and Review: Model and texture a diverse range of high-fidelity props/assets from initial concepts to production-ready states, providing feedback to outsourcers as needed
• Strategize and Communicate: Communicate and drive alignment around the artistic vision and strategy for complex initiatives, ensuring all team members are engaged and informed
What we're looking for
• Expertise: Extensive experience and a proven track record in environment art within the gaming industry, with an expert-level understanding of relevant tools and processes
• Leadership Skills: Strong ability to lead projects and teams, facilitating effective collaboration and communication across disciplines
• Advanced Texturing Knowledge: Mastery of texturing skills with experience in PBR and material creation, alongside complex shader knowledge
• Concept to Completion: Ability to take 2D concept art to completion while effectively interpreting and enhancing design goals
• Strategic Mindset: A strategic thinker who can prioritize work based on company vision and drive initiatives that align with team and product goals
• Collaboration and Influence: A proactive communicator who builds relationships internally and externally, driving collaboration and alignment on artistic objectives
